I’d really like to keep Hicks but how much will it take? I know he had mentioned again earlier in the year being a starter and didn’t seem happy he wasn’t given a real opportunity. I’ve read that the Orioles are in need a pitching so do they have anyone we could trade for to send them Montgomery and/or Flaherty

That Dodger trade has us receiving 3 prospects in return. All 3 combined have less BTV than their #1 prospect.

I dislike those type trades where the return value is spread out over multiple players. It weakens the chances of getting someone really good, something we currently lack.

I’d rather send two or three players and get equal value back in one player.

Excuse me, but……with Helsley, Gallegos, Hicks, and Cabrera don’t we have the makings of a pretty good late inning bullpen?

Our save% is 6th worst. Our blown saves are tied for second most.

Our reliever W/L is 15-18. The names you mentioned have W/L of 6-13.

“will listen to offers for their young position players in trades…”

Chaos. We have one thing going for us. Lets tear that down so Bill doesn’t have to spend cash on proven pitching.

I think I agree, mostly because it seems like Mo would be less likely to strike out.

Update on the Mariners-Cardinals trade discussions, via my Threads account.

So the last two years the FO made additions that made big differences for the second half, but we were not this far out. Which did not require losing major pieces. We also probably need a reliever if we are being honest.

    Lester Happ
    Monty Quint

I dont know if that level of talent is going to cut it this far out, so perhaps to get the pieces we need we will have to lose some important parts

CWS and SEA look like reasonable partners, but everyone will be looking for the same things we want and will be far less desperate

I don’t think they are willing to throw away this year no matter how far out, so something WILL happen, whether it is enough is the issue

    Cease
    Giolito
    Nola
    Greinke
probably any starter on SEA except Kirby and Castillo
Snell or Lugo from SD maybe

As much as I hate I think Goldy could be a chip, he probably won’t bring back some amazing chip, but to a contender perhaps…but none of the rebuilders will be interested…

I wonder if TB might want Goldy….could a guy like Glasnow come back? He’s expensive but has a year of control with his contract and they havent really needed him, I’d like to think a straight swap works for both teams, but with Goldy’s contract i think we may have to add another piece…catcher seems a weak link on their team so maybe Herrera makes it palatable. Goldy as DH/1b with Yandy is formidable and makes for an impressive

It’s a gamble for the Cardinals as Glasnow has been so hurt, but has all the stuff to be what we lack. And getting out from Goldy’s contract might be what ther team needs goign into the offseason, and to be honest we do have depth at 1b even if not Goldy level.

Would Arenado be ok with it? That’d be the only issue internally

If we can acquire one chip like that, it makes the hurt far worse for acquiring another part of significance

    I look at 2 routes
-CWS Cease with his extra year (with hopes of extending)
-Nola on his expiring contract (with hopes of signing him)

    pieces on the table?
    Noot or Carlson
    Edman or Donovan
    TON
    Yepez
    Burly
    Baker
    Matz

I’d also go looking for a some veteran OF help from someone…maybe a Laureano from OAK or someone of great defensive prowess

    I doubt Goldy gets moved
I doubt if we move a major young chip it will return hat we think it is or will be (outside of a blockbuster like trading Walker for Ohtani with his 500m extension or something)

    A vet
and someone with a year of control is probably our best bet

the group of Burly, Yepez, Baker need to be cleared out or made explicit room for

    Contreras-c
    Gorman-2
    DeJong-SS
    Walker-DH
    Goldy-1
    Arenado-3
    Edman-cf
    Donovan-lf/rf
    Noot or Carlson lf/rf

Looks like our strongest starting 9

I’d consider anyone else easily on the batter block

Baker, TON, Kniz, Wynn, Yepez, Burly, Ivan all feel replaceable even if we like them

but those are the safe guys to move…and also bring us the least back…especially of significance

Maybe we could swing an Aaron Nola and or Giolito? with hopes of a big extension?

They will be highly desired so i dont know if our MLB ready guys will be the impact a rebuilding team will want

It’s gonna bee a hairy deadline…the disappointment of the season combined with possibly losing a major young player we like for a last grasp at this season….might be too much for the fanbase.

Everyone has every reason to question some of the decisions made recently as we watch our throwaways and trades at the All Star game or one TV every night while the returns slump or are ineffective

Sorry so long…just been a tough year

Thanks BW. I guess it’s like buying beer or walking into a store now days. We can’t pursue everyday life without being compelled to choose sides at every turn.

The jager, you might be able to put together a nice second half, but then what? We don’t have the organizational depth to sustain success. A couple injuries and we’re done. Deadline deals is a band aid.

If the Cardinals are considering trading Jordan Walker they are truly idiots

I don’t think they’ll trade him, greyghost, unless it’s to Memphis.

I’ve never communicated a solitary word on either facebook, twitter, instagram or the other one, but in my view the concept of taking sides is a simple one that’s deeply imbedded in the entire evolution of the human species in the form of tribalism. Not at all unlike Cardinal/Cubs fans…Haha!

Oh I don’t know it seems like such a MO thing to do. Trade the talent keep the mediocre IL bound player. Just sayin’.

The one big trade chip we have, Montgomery, is now injured. GREAT. if he is out until after the trade deadline, maybe he gets a qualifying offer though.

Mikolas will be 35 shortly. Goldschmidt will be 36 shortly. There is no point hanging onto either one. Move them before the slide takes hold. We’re not competing for a flag in the next couple years.

Our old “friend” Casino Jon Heyman is kicking up dirt in Seattle, making headlines on a subject that he readily admits has low odds of actually occurring. But, hey, it gets clicks!

Fingers crossed Monty and O’Neill are healthy by the deadline. Also, get rid of JF before he gets hurt.

Am I nuts to think DeJong could actually have value as well? Not a lot in return, but when you look at WAR, he hasn’t been a negative investment.

    Royals released Amir Garrett today.

Sound like a Mo special – waiver wire claim.

Cardinals will need warm bodies once they start making trades.

Matt Bowman opted out of his minor league deal with the Yankees today. Maybe the Cardinals can interest him in a reunion?

    designated Genesis…

look he hasnt become what we want, and has been trending down, but are we really in a position to let go of 26yr old lefty pitchers that have shown they can be pretty darn great?

I mean DeJong looked like garbage for the last 3 years and he remains

saw Yanks are looking for catching, pitching

not saying it happens… but Willson trade? it’s a lot of money in his contract and signals a mistake by our FO, but he still hits for power and the Yanks might be the only team willing to pay money like that

Not sure what we get back, but could open some payroll for pitching in the winter whiel we give Ivan and Knizner a real shot
