I think Ohtani prefers the west coast and would probably test free agency in 24 hoping to land with a west coast team. I still doubt the Angels trade him.
July 29, 2022 at 4:58 pm #192937Seems like O’Neill for Lopez seems like a fair swap. Both are team controlled for the same time. O’Neills injuries are the only thing that might concern the Marlins. On the down side I hope that wouldn’t mean more playing time for Dickerson.

stlcard25ParticipantThe outfield defense would be quite the dumpster fire with O’Neill permanently out of the mix. Below average at all three positions. I hesitate to make that trade.
July 29, 2022 at 9:12 pm #192957Carlson and Bader are not below average.
July 29, 2022 at 9:19 pm #192958
stlcard25ParticipantCarlson is below average defensively in center, and who knows if Bader makes it back this year and stays healthy. I’m only meaning defensively, FWIW. Carlson is a good fill in CFer for now.

stlcard25ParticipantA fairly nice haul for Cincy back…two top 100 guys including a top 20 and the 5th ranked prospect for Seattle, plus one more.
July 29, 2022 at 9:45 pm #192963Indeed a nice haul for the Reds. You had to figure Dipoto was going to do something though.
July 30, 2022 at 8:42 am #192983Very nice haul for Cincy, glad the Cards don’t have to face him in the NLC, but that deal made them better as an organization long term.
Is it fair to assume Arenado hasn’t signed anything official saying he won’t opt out?
July 30, 2022 at 9:39 am #192987If that is the price of deadline deal pitching I sure hope Flaherty comes back soon and strong.
July 30, 2022 at 9:54 am #192988Castillo was the top pitcher out there so the price for the others should be less.
July 30, 2022 at 10:11 am #192992The Cardinals have a clear need for starting pitching right now, and that need is best addressed by dealing with the Angels.
I would prefer Ohtani to Soto (Ohtani can pitch!!!), and believe your biggest upgrades come from dealing with your weakest points first.
So, with that in mind, I ran a trade for Ohtani through the simulator, and it shows his value is 107.6.
What could the Cardinals trade to the Angels for Ohtani? Gorman, Liberatore Burleson & Yepez have a combined trade value of 105.9.
Ohtani gets to play for a winner, we would have a possiblity of getting Ohtani, Goldschmidt, Arenado, Pujols, Molina & Wainwright one ring together. Maybe a WS would be enough to convince Ohtani to resign with the Cards?
July 30, 2022 at 10:13 am #192994And if you are going to go for a WS, might as well trade for Syndegaard as well. His value isn’t especially high due to his $21 million salary and him becoming a free agent at the end of the year. Maybe Thompson + Woodford (free Jake!) for Syndegaard?
July 30, 2022 at 12:17 pm #193005I agree LACardfan. Trading for Ohtani is essentially like trading for two players. He is an elite ace and an elite power bat. I don’t want to lose our top prospects but I would rather do it for him than Soto. I don’t know if the Angels will pull the trigger but they should because I don’t think he resigns with them. He wants to play for a winner.
July 30, 2022 at 1:10 pm #193016Snelling or Clevinger AND Syndergaard. Keep Arenado happy is goal #1 (while winning the NLC).
July 30, 2022 at 1:20 pm #193018I hope Romero isn’t our big pitching addition.

July 30, 2022 at 3:00 pm #193045Maybe Thompson + Woodford (free Jake!) for Syndegaard?
No. I’d consider Woodford and a low level guy for Syndegaard. No way I’m putting Thompson in it. Syndegaard throws like 92-94 now, not 98-100, he still doesn’t pitch and his slider has been much more hittable without the velocity. Tack on he’s a free agent at years end and still owed over $8 million for the rest of the season. I wouldn’t give up much for him.
With what CIN pulled for Castillo I’d think Lopez value is just as high, if not higher and would cost substantially more than just O’Neill.
July 30, 2022 at 6:07 pm #193090Howm much would it take to get Rodon?
July 30, 2022 at 6:56 pm #193099Carlos? He has a contract for next season at $22.5 and he locked in the availability to opt put at 110 innings pitched. Wouldn’t send the best message to trade a guy only 4 out, I know they have struggled lately though, and a guy you just signed this last off season, but not impossible I guess.

ParticipantI think we should offer this package for Montas
Liberatore
Noot or Yepez (if he can be traded)
Baker or Nunez
Walsh or Pacheco
Woodford or ThomasOakland needs some power bats and starter options. We are going to have some 40 man issues next year.

jj-cf-stlParticipantCardinals interested in Jake Odorizi — MLBTR — Goold
July 31, 2022 at 12:36 pm #193214Odorizzi has a player option for 2023 so he might be a rental.
Cards are also apparently looking at Nathan Eovaldi, who is a rental.
Carlos Rodon has an opt out for 2023, so he might be a rental also.
Personally, I still think they should be checking on Madbum.
July 31, 2022 at 12:46 pm #193215The Frankie Montas trade market is focused on the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Cardinals, sources say.
Montas, who has thrown 8 innings since returning from the IL earlier this month, is not scheduled to pitch again before Tuesday's 6 pm ET deadline. @MLB @MLBNetwork @Sportsnet

July 31, 2022 at 12:46 pm #193216The #STLCards are interested in #Reds RHP Tyler Mahle, who has a 2.83 ERA over his last 9 starts.
One word of caution: The division rivals have not completed an @MLB trade since Nov. 10, 1997, when @RedsCowboy was traded to St. Louis for Dmitri Young. @MLBNetwork
