1982 willie
ParticipantYep i just read where he was promoted. I def think he could be the real deal. Have to wait n see of course but the future seems to be bright.
May 11, 2026 at 6:18 pm #307157The roster matrix shows 4 catchers already on the Springfield roster.

ParticipantYep current roster shows 5 catchers including rodriguez.
May 11, 2026 at 8:08 pm #307159Calls to mind the Lovin Spoonful song from way back.
Did you ever have to finally decide?
And say yes to one and let the other one rideMay 11, 2026 at 8:30 pm #307160You mean to tell me that the current roster has 4 or 5 catchers? Well, maybe that’s a good thing. The Ol’ Perfessor once said, “You have to have a catcher because if you don’t you’re likely to have a lot of passed balls”…You can look it up.
May 11, 2026 at 9:30 pm #307163Really exciting to see about Rainiel. I was expecting it to be another month or so before he was promoted but the Cards obviously have a lot more data on how he is progressing. His stats are great and hopefully the glove is looking good as well. At the pace Rainiel is going we may see him debut as a 20 year old and by 21 he likely will be lined up to try to crack the Opening Day 2028 roster.
Gurevitch also was very deserving of the promotion and he needs to be challenged more since he is a 22 year old college guy and A+ should be a better test for him. His underlying metrics look really good for the most part. He is hitting the ball very hard. He is a more aggressive swinger but does avoid swinging out of the zone at a high rate and is average rate. His contact rates and batted ball profile are where he needs to improve. Slightly on the contact rate but honestly as hard as he is hitting the ball it doesn’t matter if he has 35 grade bat control. But it will matter if he keeps up 35 grade bat control if he is smashing so many ground balls as that will prevent him from him reaching consistent game power.
May 12, 2026 at 9:21 am #307178To accommodate the addition of C Rainiel Rodriguez at Double-A Springfield, the #stlcards released C Carlos Linarez.

May 12, 2026 at 12:11 pm #307184OF Mike Antico, who stole 119 bases between 2022 and 2023 at High-A and Double-A, has been released by the #stlcards. The 28-year-old had spent much of 2026 on Memphis' Development List. pic.twitter.com/PNoLue8Fr3

May 12, 2026 at 3:39 pm #307192It is surprising to me they are releasing guys right now as they have the roster space. Maybe they don’t see a point in carrying them to the draft and then freeing space.
Showalter is somewhat surprising since he looked good for a while but then he has been down right awful since.
Do these guys get to draw unemployment when they are released?
May 12, 2026 at 5:59 pm #307197I think part of it is guys returning from IL. For example, Noot returning pushes Antico out. Broderson returning pushes Showalter out. Raniel promotion means they needed to lose one of 3 other catchers. Showalter has been mostly terrible and Antico has barely played. Linarez is actually semi interesting, but is squeezed out by boatloads of catching talent.
I assume they can collect unemployment depending on the state laws of the state they are living in. That would make sense. Some will likely play elsewhere.

ParticipantNot surprising they released some players. Kind of sad but its part of the business.
May 13, 2026 at 10:53 am #307264Uh oh. Tai Peete to Peoria IL with Luis Pino called up from Palm Beach. Facundo Velasquez from FCL to PB.
May 15, 2026 at 8:26 am #307471Update: Packy Naughton, who started his latest comeback with a strong spring before injury in one of his first Class AAA Memphis appearances, will have elbow surgery next MONTH, #stlcards confirm. Surgery will reveal the extent of repair and timetable for lefty. More @stltoday.

May 15, 2026 at 9:10 am #307473Hasn’t Packy already had TJ twice?
May 15, 2026 at 9:22 am #307474Either the third one is a charm or maybe it is time to consider another career. His body is pushing him toward the latter, it seems.
Izzy is only one of a handful of pitchers to make it back after a third TJS. So it is not impossible.

ParticipantNaughton looked good in spring. I too think he needs to start thinking about moving on.

May 16, 2026 at 1:30 pm #307579That was easy.
May 16, 2026 at 3:52 pm #307604We only have 2 lefties now.
May 18, 2026 at 12:35 pm #307712
cardsfan64ParticipantRHP DJ Carpenter has been transferred from Peoria (A+) to Springfield (AA).
RHP Ty Van Dyke has been transferred from Palm Beach (A) to Peoria (A+).
RHP Jovi Gálvez (A) has been activated from the 7-day IL.
OF Matthew Miura (A) will begin a rehab assigned with the FCL…

Bottom line says:
C Chase Adkison (AA) has been placed on the Development List.May 18, 2026 at 2:53 pm #307715Not surprisingly, Jared Shuster cleared waivers again and has been outrighted to Memphis again. One more loop through this and he will be in Motter territory.

ParticipantMust be a bad feeling when nobody wants to take a chance on you.

Packy has already a plan set in place for life after baseball. He got his real estate license when he was rehabbing in 2024 IIRC.
I imagine this might be it for him. Feel bad for him. Both sides to a gamble when he signed a 2 year minors deal. Also a shame because of the lack of lefty relief depth.
