I’d like to see Gastulem get added. I don’t think his lack of AAA experience will hurt. Let him get his feet wet. I’d also like to see Watson at AAA. He has done really well at Springfield.

Jared Shuster cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Memphis.

With Hanson activated I wonder they won’t use him and Rincon and try and get them 4 innings each.

Anyone know anything about Palm Beach lefty Yordy Herrera? 21 years old with a lot of Ks.

I have a pretty extensive file devoted to pitching injuries. One of my favorite theories is that youths being encouraged to throw too much and too hard results in arm damage before they even get to pro ball. The case of lat injuries illustrates that theory. Here is a blurb from a good article on the subject’ The author’s bio appears at the end of the article which is linked below.:

“Back in 2008, I published a research study that looked at the range of motion of professional baseball pitchers and noted that their throwing shoulders had 137 degrees of external rotation. When we measure players now, it’s not uncommon to have 140-155 degrees of external rotation.
We know that external rotation in the throwing shoulder is due to boney adaptations from throwing while the growth plates are open. Youth baseball players are throwing so much, that the volume of throwing is likely leading to more boney changes, and more layback.
So that lat will need to produce tension to eccentrically control the arm into layback and switch to concentric acceleration from a more biomechanically disadvantageous position. The lat is needing to produce more force at further amounts of end range of motion.”

The more I think about it, the less I like having Crooks and Bernal on the same roster. Between Bernal, Crooks, and Jordan have they have all sat out at least 5 games. If there was an injury involved that could be a plausible excuse. Seems like valuable playing time lost. And Madris has played more than I thought.

Per ESPN, Dobbins is on DL, due back April 30th. But Milb doesn’t show this.

April 30th is probably the end of the standard 30 days allowed. Of course, it could be ended early or even extended if the player agrees. I don’t think it means that the Cardinals have shown their hand regarding timing.

Dobbins’s last start on the 19th was abbreviated, only 53 pitches. It had been 5 days since the previous start. 5 days again would be Friday, the 24th. If that goes ok, then the next would be on the 29th.
The Cardinals are in Pittsburgh. That might be the one we see him. Of course, they could slide him beyond 5 days.

Dobbins’ last start ended early because of a rain delay during the fourth inning. He is fine. His next start for Memphis is scheduled for Saturday.

5 days from Saturday would still have us in Pittsburgh, but then we are at home for a while. Of course, it is not his MLB debut, so maybe they will throw him out there at home. Not smart when you have a choice, but I don’t know if the computer knows that.

I think that puts the 40 man at 40, with Noot due to come off the 60 day soon.

I took a glance at Peralta’s MiLB history and looks like he did well enough until 2025 when he fell apart, continuing into this year. He made his debut and also was traded from PIT to COL in 2025 also, and did a IL stint for hip inflammation just after the trade.

Peralta had a great 2024. But there is nothing to suggest he will help the big club. Huge strikeout and walk numbers. But pitching for Colorado is always difficult, especially with control issues.

As bling posted on the game thread, Dobbins has been returned to Memphis. My guess is that Pushard will be activated off the IL, but I haven’t confirmed it yet.

Pushard has been less than good at Memphis, was bad in St Louis, and was bad all of Spring Training. They may want to offer him back to Miami.

Adding Pushard would make be akin to an NFL QB being rushed by linemen, while juggling TNT in a fuel depot.
