Sorry I missed your inquiry last evening, Brian. Rather than bring up Rincon without sufficient AA exposure, I would move Bedell into the rotation for the time being. Watson, I guess to fill Bedell’s slot in the pen if it would need to be filled.

Thanks for the answer. I watched Bedell all spring and he did not look great working as a one-inning reliever. He was not stretched out to start. To open the season, he didn’t make the Memphis roster and was put on the Development List. He was activated when they had an opening and promptly posted a 16.20 ERA in his first two relief outings. I don’t think he would last long starting.

Bedeviled had great promise. It’s too bad injuries have derailed his career. Rincon is the right call. It seems that the promotion won’t be long term. Hansen will likely be back at Memphis soon. And Zimmerman shouldn’t be blocking anyone if Rincon does well in his audition. In fact the Shuster move may be temoorary as well. This bullpen is in shambles.

It will be interesting to see if Rincon starts or is a multi innings guy.

As long as Dobbins is there rehabbing, Memphis has five starters with Zimmermann, Mathews, Mautz and Fitts. Maybe Hansen will be ready about the time Dobbins’ rehab is over, too.

Isn’t Naughton ready to start pitching also. They have numbers at least.

Yes, it would require another 40-mon move, but he could help the pen.

For anyone interested, here’s the link to my pitching tracker for 2026. Its pretty self-explanatory but if you have questions, just ask.

Anyone know how serious Naughton’s injury is?

This could be ‘it’ for him.

I don’t understand Zimmerman starting and Rincon in middle relief. Maybe Rincon wasn’t built up enough of a pitch count to start? But shouldn’t he have been ready by now? With Henderson out until June, Dobbins rehabbing they had to know there would be need of a starter at AA & AAA. I just don’t like how the Cards seem to have preconceived notions of certain players. Rincon had a very good 2025, and should start at AAA at some point this year. Don’t just move him to the bullpen.

Interesting move for Ynfante from Palm Beach to Springfield, skipping Peoria. I’m assuming this is depth move, but it’s interesting that the FO must like Ynfante.

I wonder of those who are injured will have impacts on our minor leagues.

Clarke, who is on the Springfield roster, should be rehabbing soon, and pitch for Peoria.

Hjerpe, who also should pitch again in June. Because he is on the 40 man roster, it looks like he would be switched to the bullpen like Hence.

Ellisalt is on the 60 day DL, and would return to Peoria this summer.

Robberse would be added to the Memphis pen. He is interesting because after he gets healthy the switch might make tick up his velocity.

Thompson might provide a valuable lefty bullpen piece later in the year. He can be a minor league free agent after this year, so it is his last chance with the Cards.

Dohm has yet to pitch, but is on the Peoria roster, so we should see him soon.

Graham is recovering from Tommy John surgery last year, but if his recovery is normal he should return late this summer.

This is very unfortunate. I was really hoping to see Packy back in the STL bullpen this year.

Richard Fitts has been placed on Memphis’ IL with a right lat strain.

Well that takes him out of being called up for a while.

I wonder how many starts Pallantes will be given if he bombs out like yesterday? We have Dobbins and Fitts (assuming he’ll be back from the IL by the time a change is considered)

Pallante had two decent starts before Sunday’s really bad one. For the season to date, his numbers and Leahy’s are very similar through three starts each.

And for what it’s worth, Pallante’s got extremely unlucky in his last start. He had 2 fluky hit by pitches where he hit the guy in the hand as he was checking his swing on an inside pitch. The wind blowing straight out to CF may have led to the home run by Contreras. Fermin let a fly out fall in front of him for a “base hit” that a normal left fielder probably catches. Urias could have easily thrown home for the force out when the sacks were loaded but took too long to decide and had to settle for an out at first. And then another time Urias had a tailor-made double play ball hit right to him that he somehow just let go right by him. 7 runs allowed could have easily been just 4 and possibly only 2 if those things all go the Cards way. However, Pallante was missing his spots all game and giving up lots of hard contact so that’s sometimes what you get when you don’t execute.

04/13/26 St. Louis Cardinals designated LHP Jared Shuster for assignment.
04/13/26 RHP Cade Winquest returned to St. Louis Cardinals from New York Yankees.
04/13/26 St. Louis Cardinals recalled RHP Ryan Fernandez from Memphis Redbirds.

Dobbins is still recovering from ACL reconstruction. Maybe his rehab starts will go well but there is no guarantee.

Fitts now has a lat strain. Those types of injuries are notoriously fickle so who knows how long he will be out.

We are probably stuck with our current rotation in STL unless someone else in Memphis is ready to step up. I am not sure who that would be.

Dobbins has pitched 5 innings, is nearly ready, so he likely will need 2 more starts. Now if Pallante pitches fairly well he’ll stay in the rotation. But I think he should have to sermon it after last year.

Agree with C27. Dobbins threw 91 pitches last start. One ER in 5 1/3 IP with 7 Ks. He wouldn’t need to prove much more to me.
