ParticipantReading brians assesment of the guy, pretty much right on. Still lots of possible moves so he may be gone by opening day. I think if he sticks and makes the roster, he will def be given his shot. No reason not to with the team as is. He will either turn it around and maybe get a better deal next season or he continues to flounder and they eventually release him. If i was him though, i wouldnt be messing around. This could be it.

cardsfan64ParticipantWe have acquired LHP Justin Bruihl from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations.

ParticipantSeems like a solid pickup. Nothing to write home about. I expect him to be on the opening day roster barring injury.
January 6, 2026 at 8:48 pm #298794Can’t get RHB out. Kind of a problem.
January 7, 2026 at 6:55 am #298811Brian, at the end of your Bruihl article, it mentions the Cardinals having just Romero and “an unproven Ryan Loutos” from the left side. I’m sure you meant to say Nick Raquet!
January 7, 2026 at 8:37 am #298818Oops. Corrected. Thanks for telling me.
January 9, 2026 at 7:31 pm #298934Free-agent reliever Ryne Stanek and the St. Louis Cardinals are in agreement on a contract, according to sources familiar with the deal.

January 9, 2026 at 7:43 pm #298935Bye bye Roycroft.
January 9, 2026 at 8:21 pm #298943I would prefer to DFA Fermin or Prieto over Roycroft. If either gets claimed it the other is still around and Fermin / Prieto are kind of redundant especially with Torres around as well. Roycroft at least can be needed bullpen depth to fill middle innings and has an option year left.
January 9, 2026 at 8:22 pm #298944I don’t mind acquiring Stanek. Probably low cost and a STL native. The team does probably need at least 1 veteran guy in the bullpen to help teach the others.

ParticipantI dont think this pitcher was worth the trouble. But why the heck not.

MrperkinsParticipantI’m hoping the Stanek deal isn’t for more than 3 million. I absolutely hate signing guys with BB/9 rates of over 3 and this guy has been consistently over 4BB/9 year after year. Anybody know if he is a quick worker or not? Only thing worse than a pitcher that can’t throw strikes is one that keeps his defense flat-footed as well. That’s about the only good thing I like about the pitch timer.

If somebody needs a mop up guy to put them over the top . . .

He does hit high 90s on the fastball.
I think the big thing this signing can do is let Graceffo start the year in AAA. He needs a little more time there to iron things out imo. Or it’s a backup plan if Pushard doesn’t work out.
January 10, 2026 at 12:21 pm #298964He will be taking the Kittridge/Maton role of veteran setup guy except he isn’t as good as those two.
January 10, 2026 at 3:40 pm #298969Ryne Stanek’s deal with the Cardinals is for $3.5 million with a $6 million club option for 2027, per source.

January 10, 2026 at 4:04 pm #298970I mean they signed someone. Lol
Hopefully Roycroft is Jettisoned. Fernandez would be my next choice. He’s been horrible since the 2nd half of 2024.
January 10, 2026 at 4:43 pm #2989721982 willie
ParticipantI like the club option deal of 6 million in 27. Gives the guy some motivation to put up good numbers regardless of whats going on around him.
January 10, 2026 at 4:43 pm #298973Stanek has been awful the last 3 years… can’t see him helping much, I think he fried his arm in Houston with all the innings he pitched in releif
January 10, 2026 at 8:56 pm #298975I wonder what King will sign for.
They are supposed to be going younger and cheaper, not older and more expensive.

cardsfan64ParticipantThis transaction snuck in and I haven’t seen anything else on it. More Left handed depth at Memphis:
01/05/26 – St. Louis Cardinals signed free agent LHP Bruce Zimmermann to a minor league contract.
January 12, 2026 at 7:30 pm #2990701982 willie
ParticipantZimmerman has struggled in limited mlb action though decent in minors. Hes out of options so putting him on the mlb roster comes with issues. I exoect him to spend season in minors unless there are injuries or he just pitches lights out.
January 12, 2026 at 7:35 pm #2990711982 willie
ParticipantI read an article where matt holliday said he liked the stanek deal. Thinks hes due a bounce back and could bring some good prospects in a trade later in season if that happens. I agree that makes sense though like i said earlier the team could keep him but would depend on where they think they might be in 2027.
