Well if the depth is as good as advertised then you don’t need much more pitching depth other than AAA.

I was referencing the potential w-l records for each of the four affiliates. Last year’s was abysmal. I would hope they will be much better this year but I am skeptical on three of the four.

Waddell was outrighted to Memphis yesterday. That clears up the 40-Man spot for Pallante

It is already reflected on the new Roster Matrix, posted this morning.

Alright so Memphis has 31 players listed for 28 spots, however, 30 players have seen game action. The only person who hasn’t appeared in a game is Waddell. I find this interesting.

The taxi squad continues in 2022 so that is why Memphis can appear to be over the 28 limit. I included mention of this in the Roster Matrix.

Does anyone but me, when glancing at the thread titles, see the Roster Matrix listing and for a split second think it reads “Roger Maris”?

I am guessing not, since I am an old guy and was a big Maris fan as a kid, even when he was on the Yankees. But I swear, most of the time when I quickly peruse the threads I see “Roger Maris” on this one.

Maybe that is sort of like how Rats often types Jack Flaherty’s last name as “Fletcher.” He must just see “Fletcher” when Flaherty’s name comes to mind.

I’m also a huge fan of Maris.
I never got those two mixed-up. However, I do have other split second mix-ups.

I wonder how the Cards would add Gorman and/or Liberatore. Flaherty being moved to 60 day DL is possible, but we haven’t heard how he reacted to the long toss he threw a couple weeks ago.

Gorman seems likely to be added before Liberatore at this point.

Not too many pitchers step right into the rotation without first being tested in the bullpen. IMO the Gorman promotion has a lot to do with how DeJong performs going forward. Gorman won’t force Edman out of the lineup. And of course injuries play a role with guys coming up. I’ve been saying to get Gorman a first baseman’s glove since last season. Pujols is brittle.

Would anyone miss T.J. Zeuch and his 10.91 ERA through four starts for Memphis? My point is that 40-man spots can always be found when needed. The much bigger issue, IMO, is when will the team decide that DeJong is done starting? That is when we will see Gorman, as NY mentioned.

The explanation is very simple. This is a question for Mo, not Oli. The manager doesn’t set the roster. But when Gorman shows up, Oli knows he will have to play him.

Isn’t the deadline to reduce down to a 26 man roster May 1st? I’m guessing Pallante and Donovan get sent down, although Pallante has been stellar.

My take is Ollie is saying ‘my middle infield is supposed to be DeJong and Edman and I’m supposed to DH Dickerson against righties’.

Brooks is going to be DFA’d before Donovan is sent down. He was a poor man’s Mikolas coming out of Japan.

Just a guess – Brooks and Naughton.

Sadly I believe this to be true. Marmol on the end of mo’s string.

Gorman does need every day play, but we all know the gig. He’s not going to light the world on fire when he arrives but he will adjust and eventually do quite well. I see him as a 3-4 WAR 2B, similar to Edman’s value but tilted toward offense rather than defense. Edman looks like the SS/utility guy. Sosa is the defensive whiz at short. Dejong is a change of scenery guy, as I think he’s in his head now and probably won’t recover here.

Last season there was a quote from DeJong talking about his hitting and it was a steaming pile of analytics/biomechanics gobbledygook. He’s done.

Why not option DeJong to Memphis to work on his swing? He has 3 options left, so it is not like the team is giving up on him. Just needs to get back into the right rhythm.

Does the Brooks DFA signal a Gorman add to the 40 man roster sometime soon, and a Dejong demotion? The only complication is Edman’s injury. But Sosa could shortstop too.

Carlson needs to be the convo also regarding being sent down. The argument could be made he’s hitting worse than Pauly D.

You are right blackhills. Though there will be a lot of opposition to it here. The thing is Carlson is going through the same thing bader was a couple years ago. Lots of swings at balls out of the zone. Bader got sent down to work on things and came back better. Hes not an offensive dynamo but his numbers have been far better than Carlson or O’Neils. So after some time, they may have to think about Carlson going down.
