Yes, I previously reported the DSL change in this article.

Insight on Cardinals’ 2022 Minor League Coaches and Player Development Assignments

I don’t have spring camp invite names, but traditionally, few if any DSL players come in March because they are not realistic candidates to make full season rosters. The handful who earn US promotions typically come for extended spring training starting in April and start their US careers in the FCL.

However, official rosters aren’t usually changed until the teams’ respective regular seasons start.

Smith Vargas, Joerlin De Los Santos, Julio Puello are still listed on the FCL roster. All three have been released.

Also wondering about the four who were left off the Spring Training roster per BlackHills post in another thread.

Off the top there are 4 guys on the FCL roster not listed.

BHC, the three you mentioned were listed as released for a short time on the MiLB website, but if you check them today, they are designated as “active”. Their status was changed back.

Baseball America also does not indicate they were released, and they are usually very reliable. What source are you referencing?

cf64, players may not be in camp for a variety of reasons, often times not publicized. I speculated about why it may be in my roster article on the home page and will see what I can learn more definitively when I am in spring camp later this month.

Baseball America’s MILB Transactions January 15 to January 31, 2022 list all three as being released.

Thanks for explaining. It is odd that BA’s player pages don’t include the transactions. Further, MiLB was showing other transactions during this time. I will try to clarify.

Eh… maybe not always so accurate. For at least one player anyway.

DK, what’s wrong with his player page on BA?

Cardsfan64, I think BA missed a few promotions under his transactions.

Bw, did you get verification that Vargas, Santos, and Puello were released? I noticed you have them as being released when you search each name. Also, they’re not listed on the roster but I didn’t see any notification in the Matrix.

Yes. Because the three were released in January, they are on the off-season Matrix. The current Matrix covers spring training. Here is the earlier one.

MLB transaction page shows Anderson Tejeda was released on April 4. Didn’t see anything about that anywhere else! Must have had an opt out if he didn’t make the majors.

Rumors have it that Tejeda was going to be sent down to Springfield which is also the case for Austin Warner.

I hás real hopes for Tejeda. Thought he had a good Spring and with a strong start at Memphis could have been in the call up mix.

Memphis has a heck of an infield.

Why do the rosters for our 4 minor league teams show as many as 32 players?

Outside of Memphis I don’t see a lot of quality pitching depth. I could see Memphis with a winning record but the other three teams are doubtful.

I don’t think there’s as many roster restrictions as the big club. I might be totally wrong but they can carry up to even more than 32.

Well if the depth is as good as advertised then you don’t need much more pitching depth other than AAA.

On the roster size questions, the season-opening IL moves haven’t all been communicated yet. Triple-A and Double-A can have up to 28 active players and Class-A 30. That is the same as in 2021.

I’m thinking the Cards will designate LJ Newsome for assignment. Lately, it seems like they claim a player from another team in the fall, or winter of a previous year, then designate them after spring training when other teams don’t have roster room.

You are too late, C27. Newsome was removed from the 40-man in November as part of the Rule 5 protection decisions.

    P.S. My guess is Naughton.
