jj-cf-stlParticipantOli seemed intent on getting Saggese as many left side of the infield starts as possible. There were times he DH’d Gorman, and started Saggese at 3B. The FO may have a Descalso role in mind for Thomas. I’m curious to see if Saggese is scheduled for left side work in Memphis.
July 18, 2025 at 11:21 am #287585They need to find a playable left side arm, maybe Saggese will work.
I think the Cards hitting gurus have Walker so tangled up he can”t even hit Texas League fastballs anymore. We will see how this goes.
July 18, 2025 at 4:47 pm #287597It may not matter unless Saggese shows he can hit MLB pitching.
July 18, 2025 at 6:27 pm #287604
jj-cf-stlParticipantHe’s got at least a bench bat and understands the leverage of his PA’s. He’s probably going to hunt inside too much and limit himself, much as Winn is this season, but his slow start is no different than Winn and Scott’s. If he can hit lefties and shows a left side arm we could use him.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI like the roster shuffle concerning Fermin and Saggese, and I don’t see the demotion as a negative. Fermin deserves to stay up.
July 19, 2025 at 8:02 am #287633Looking to add depth at Triple-A, the #STLCards signed 36-y/o RHP Aaron Wilkerson to a minors contract and assigned him to Memphis. The ex-Brewer (2017-19) pitched in the KBO (2023-24) then in AAA for the Reds (4.17 ERA in 8 starts) before he opted out of his contract Thursday. pic.twitter.com/mOF4vtpcP9

KeepComingBackParticipantLooks like Burleson’s brother
July 19, 2025 at 8:47 am #287639Much older brother…
July 19, 2025 at 11:49 am #287649It appears this guy has started more than 8 games this season. Looks like he had a bad start to the season and a couple of bad starts in June. Likely roster filler. Whip is respectable. Likes his taters tho.
July 19, 2025 at 2:24 pm #287659As expected, Nolan Gorman hits the IL (back) retroactive to 7/18. Thomas Saggese is back up. #STLCards

jj-cf-stlParticipantRighty bench now. Pozo, Fermin, Saggese & Hampson; I think.

That is amusing. I guess Walker is a starter rather than bench.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWith Noot IL…..
We might as well play Walker, let Bloom get as good of look as possible, at everybody under control next season.July 19, 2025 at 7:47 pm #287692The lumber company.
July 19, 2025 at 11:19 pm #287724Walker playing can be a win win (via losing). Either Walker finally starts playing halfway like projected as a prospect and the team maybe wins short term and long term with him. Or Walker helps the team lose and they sell off some pieces. This team is just a .500 team and won’t be able to make a playoff run so instead focus on shuffling the deck to have a better roster construction for 26.
July 20, 2025 at 3:35 pm #287786#STLCards rotation changes: Michael McGreevy will spot start Monday in COL. St. Louis will skip Matthew Liberatore’s next turn, he’ll pitch next weekend against SD. Org wanted to give Libby, who will surpass his career innings this year, extra rest coming out of the break.
— Katie Woo (@katiejwoo) July 20, 2025
I'm not sure where McGreevy will slot into, but I do think there's a push to keep him in the rotation full time. Unclear if that will actually happen.
There are no plans to skip Fedde's starts going forward. https://t.co/8TPsk0OgO3

July 21, 2025 at 4:13 pm #287852As expected, it is Graceffo who goes down to Memphis for McGreevy.

cardsfan64ParticipantPreparing for some new players from the draft, or just cleaning house for next year! From transaction page:
07/22/25 – FCL Cardinals released RHP Samuel Fabian.
07/22/25 – FCL Cardinals released RHP Ronny Oliver.
07/22/25 – FCL Cardinals released RHP Juan Severino.07/22/25 – Memphis Redbirds sent RHP Ian Bedell on a rehab assignment to FCL Cardinals.
July 22, 2025 at 2:21 pm #287916I wonder how is the accounting of roster spots happens when drafted player are added. I understand releasing players, but does Palm Beach and the FCL have an increase in roster spaces?
July 23, 2025 at 5:25 pm #288091
cardsfan64ParticipantRHP Keiverson Ramirez has been transferred from the FCL to Palm Beach (A).
1B Hancel Almonte & OF Yaisel Ramos (FCL) have been given their unconditional release.

cardsfan64ParticipantFrom the Cardinals transaction page. I’m guessing these have passed physicals. Not sure where they will play since FCL season is done!
07/23/25 – SS Jalin Flores assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Tanner Franklin assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – LHP Cade Crossland assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Bobby Olsen assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Ethan Young assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – OF Matthew Miura assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Jake Shelagowski assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Alex Breckheimer assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Dylan Driessen assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – SS Ryan Weingartner assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – OF Cameron Nickens assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Payton Graham assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Liam Best assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – SS Trevor Haskins assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Kaden Echeman assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – OF Ryan Mitchell assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – 3B Michael Dattalo assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – RHP Anthony Watts assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/19/25 – C Alex Birge assigned to FCL Cardinals.July 23, 2025 at 5:42 pm #288094I think they should schedule double headers for the Fcl and Palm Beach teams, for the end of July/beginning of August. That way both draftees and current prospects could get playing time. And then send them home with a program of things to work on.
July 23, 2025 at 10:55 pm #288119Cards27, I do believe the FCL players actually intrasquad against each other at this point although it isn’t publicized and they are more focused on the coaching side rather than performance at this point.
19 of 21 players assigned to FCL. The 2 not yet are Liam Doyle and Jack Gurevitch. Curious if that is intentional or not. Even of the 19 assigned to the FCL, some like Miura and Weingerter will most likely be promoted to Palm Beach at some point to spend the last 20-30 games there.
July 25, 2025 at 1:55 pm #288278
cardsfan64ParticipantI’m sure this is just a housecleaning item to satisfy MLB rules for roster size, but transaction page lists:
07/23/25 – FCL Cardinals placed RHP Payton Graham on the full-season injured list.July 25, 2025 at 7:47 pm #288319cf64, coincidentally I posted a roster size article for subscribers today.
