Adding a 4A UT to the 40 man because they need to cover for Walker for a couple weeks seems kind of extreme, and kind of pointless.

I’m always interested to follow any bum shoulder guy news. As I have noted before, Graceffo is on the Dakota Hudson track. We will have to see how long it takes to play out. Mathews should be observed closely. A pitching shoulder does not miraculously become more durable, so if he returns to pitching exactly as he was, it will act up again, and the wear and scarring from inflammation accumulates. The issue is always can the bum shoulder guy find a way to pitch that his shoulder can tolerate and is effective.

I noticed the Cardinals official site still shows among the top 30 prospects the whole gaggle of sore arm guys. Hence, Roby, Hjerpe, Robberse, Graceffo, Bedell. I’m not sure anymore if its just filler because somebody has to be on the list or if they really believe it.

What’s not to like about the reincarnation of the great Manny Motter? And his name’s Vlad!

Isn’t’ that the exact purpose of having 4A guys on your AAA roster? When a starter goes down, add them to the 40 man and call them up to fill in. Then when the normal starter is hurt you DFA the 4A guy since you aren’t too concerned of losing them. It isn’t like teams have a starting quality backup available for every position in the minors.

Out of those guys, I really only see Koperniak for Siani having been options to replace Walker due to the lack of true OFs on the MLB roster. Koperniak would have been my choice before the year, but he has been having some problems in AAA and may be working through some issues. Both are also LH batters and the team has plenty of them.

Vilade is a fine choice to me. He has been playing quite well, and the underlying metrics look good to support it isn’t just pure luck. For metrics like EV indicating raw power, zone contact %, outside zone %, he is right around MLB average.

The other guy I would have considered is Bryan Torres, but he shares the same problem as Koperniak and Siani of being a left handed batter.

Brian covered this in the updated version of his article he linked at the top, but Mathews back to AAA. MILB has him listed as the projected starter tonight, but I don’t know if that is accurate as it is quite often wrong.

    From the MiLB transaction page:

06/02/25 – RHP Ricardo Fernandez assigned to DSL Cardinals from DSL Cardinals.
06/02/25 – RHP Reiner Lopez assigned to DSL Cardinals.
06/02/25 – Memphis Redbirds released LHP Rob Kaminsky.
06/02/25 – Memphis Redbirds sent RHP Tink Hence on a rehab assignment to FCL Cardinals.

I was pulling for Kaminsky to make an impact, but injuries didn’t help.

Haven’t seen the official DSL roster from MiLB yet. Yostin Pena and Yordy Valdez not on their website yet, and Ricardo Fernandez is on the restricted list. I also did not see K. Perez or K. Peralta’s name listed on their site, tho they were on the restricted list last week. Hopefully that will come out later today or tomorrow.

What didn’t show in the previous post:

1B/C – Josh Kross has been transferred from Palm Beach (A) to Peoria.

C – Rainiel Rodriguez has been transferred from the FCL to Palm Beach.

INF – Christian Martin (A) has been placed on the 7-day IL.

RHP – Michael Correa (DSL) & INF Christian Saez (DSL) have been placed on the 60-day IL.

That is really exciting to see some of those promotions. I’ve a little surprised they bumped Rainel to Palm Beach already, but I like it. Kross to Peoria is nice as well even though he hasn’t been playing quite as good lately. I’m also excited to see Church to Memphis. He has been playing very well this year and has a chance to be a viable backup OFer.

06/09/25 – RHP Hancel Rincon assigned to Springfield Cardinals from Peoria Chiefs.
06/09/25 – RHP Tekoah Roby assigned to Memphis Redbirds from Springfield Cardinals.

Sad to see Rom back on the IL. I was hoping he could stay healthy for a while!

I predicted Roby to Memphis by the end of the month, but I was a little too far behind on that estimate. Really glad to see him up to Memphis though as he has been pitching at AA since 23. It makes sense Rincon got called up to AA as well to backfill and him having a whole year in A+.

I missed the McGreevy message. What in the absolute world is this front office doing? TCN needs to call in and tell them to stop jerking McGreevy around and give him a run in STL. He is clearly ready and the org is wasting his bullets in Memphis. At least McGreevy seems very mentally tough and will keep on fighting.

Jason Savacool has finally been sent up to Peoria. He was in his third season at Palm Beach and was pitching masterfully. He’ll probably replace Rincon, now at AA, in the Peopia rotation.

Siani has been hitting well at Memphis and Vilade is overmatched. It would help if Siani were right handed. Still, he’s better than Vilade in almost every facet of the game. Good promotion.

And boy am I happy to see my guy Andre Granillo get a chance. I love this guy and think you will all love him too. He’s a bulldog on the mound and the perfect guy to replace Helsley should he part ways with the Cardinals.
