Yeah that just seems like too many for one team. I don’t know how they plan on dividing up those innings.I expected Weiss and Taylor to be released. I wonder what it looks like next Friday when the other full season clubs pick up their rosters. They could move up a batter like Mendoza and then release one of those BP arms.
March 28, 2025 at 9:31 pm #278222Is Hence to the 60 day IL a miscommunication from the Cards for a rib strain? I’m surprised they would go ahead and do 60 days if it is that injury. Is there a retroactive date for that in Spring Training, or does it count from today as the start of the season? I imagine the latter which would mean no Hence until June almost at the earliest.
March 29, 2025 at 2:23 am #278225He counts against the 40 man.
March 29, 2025 at 6:08 am #278229I’m just speculating here. Acoording to Dr. Google that’s a 2-6 week injury. No matter if there is a retroactive date or not, they seem to be making sure he heals completely. I’m not high on this guy for durability reasons.
March 29, 2025 at 8:40 am #278240On the Cardinals hurt list on ESPN Hence is listed as OUT. A couple of other guys are 60 day DL but he is OUT.
What exactly does that mean?
March 29, 2025 at 9:05 am #278241
stlcard25ParticipantPreviously, I was high on Tink, but Henceforth, I will make like Roger Daltrey and won’t get fooled again. Whoever gave him his name and nickname did him no favors…he’s a bullpen guy and probably a couple year middle innings guy at that. Best case, he comes back in late May or so and we push him into stretching out to 6 innings by late July so we can use his value in a trade. We’ve seen this story before (see Reyes, Alex) and it ends in a nothingburger.
March 29, 2025 at 1:24 pm #278256Hence is on the minor league 60 day IL, not the major league 60 day IL. This means he still counts towards the 40 man roster but his service time clock doesn’t start.
March 31, 2025 at 6:52 pm #278460Springfield released their roster today

Church, Hjerpe, ad Raquet all begin the season on the IL
March 31, 2025 at 7:24 pm #278479Thanks for sharing BlackHillsCard. Filling out my roster matrix as these come in. There must be at least one more to start the year on the IL or development list as that is 29 for Springfield and the limit at AA is 28. Maybe Love?
Also really disappointing to see Hjerpe on the IL to start the year. I do think this is the Cards most exciting minors team. Exciting pitchers and then the top positional prospects.
March 31, 2025 at 7:31 pm #278480Also really glad to see Gastelum in AA as well as he did look ready to skip A+. I am surprised Ixan Henderson was already promoted to AA. Good to see. That makes the rotation battle even more difficult I imagine. I see 7 SP counting Hjerpe and Love. Maybe Love goes to the pen though as he has hardly pitched in 2 years. I think he has really good stuff and would be quite effective in the pen.
April 1, 2025 at 9:40 pm #278572Peoria announced their opening day roster today and based on all the transactions on the transaction page it appears Palm Beach has finalized their opening day and will announce it sometime tomorrow.

cardsfan64ParticipantSeveral transactions today before season openers for the rest of the full season teams: (per transaction page)
04/04/25 – Palm Beach Cardinals activated C Sammy Hernandez. (apparently M Hernandez was team already)
04/04/25 – Springfield Cardinals transferred C Wade Stauss to the Development List.
04/04/25 – St. Louis Cardinals recalled 2B Thomas Saggese from Memphis Redbirds.
04/04/25 – OF Won-Bin Cho assigned to Palm Beach Cardinals from Peoria Chiefs.
04/04/25 – Memphis Redbirds activated OF Mike Antico.April 6, 2025 at 12:28 pm #278778I was a little surprised Won-Bin Cho was assigned to Palm Beach, but in hindsight it makes sense. He didn’t play well at all in A+ and the Palm Beach environment is much more conducive to hitting than Peoria.
April 6, 2025 at 1:38 pm #278787and the Palm Beach environment is much more conducive to hitting than Peoria.
I guess it is now since they brought the fences in at PB. It used to be death valley.
But I assume you were referring to the weather.
April 6, 2025 at 2:20 pm #278791Yeah my comments were more about the weather to start the season.
April 7, 2025 at 7:41 am #278877Are we bringing up a catcher from Memphis? If we don’t then maybe that means Herrera won’t be out more than a few days?
Is Contreras considered the third catcher?
April 7, 2025 at 8:06 am #278880Ah, I see Yohel Pozo will be brought up as the 2nd catcher during Hererra’s trip to the hurt list.
April 7, 2025 at 12:26 pm #278897As expected…
C Yohel Pozo has been selected from Memphis (AAA). He will wear #63.
C Iván Herrera has been placed on the 10-day IL (left knee inflammation).
LHP Zack Thompson has been transferred to the 60-day IL. pic.twitter.com/tNQumOU1fN

cardsfan64ParticipantThis from the transaction page:
04/10/25 – St. Louis Cardinals optioned RHP Chris Roycroft to Memphis Redbirds. No corresponding move announced yet.
April 10, 2025 at 11:59 am #279115Roddery Muñoz will be the corresponding move for Roycroft.
Muñoz has appeared in four games/ 5 IP for Memphis. He's given up three hits, one earned run, walked five and struck out seven.#STLCards https://t.co/e5zWWguKbs

April 10, 2025 at 7:04 pm #279123I thought Roycroft would have been sent down earlier this week and am surprised it didn’t occur during the PIT series. Munoz wouldn’t have been my first choice, but at least he is a fresh arm. I think you could expand the strike zone a foot and Munoz would still struggle to throw strikes.
April 10, 2025 at 10:23 pm #279127In some ways, Munoz is similar to Roycroft and may also struggle to throw strikes. But yes, he at least is fresh.
April 11, 2025 at 2:37 pm #279143
cardsfan64ParticipantPrior to tonight's game in Bradenton, the Palm Beach Cardinals made a roster move.
OF Won Bin Cho has been transferred to @peoriachiefs. OF Travis Honeyman has been activated from IL. pic.twitter.com/glzyEmVXO3
— Palm Beach Cardinals (@GoPBCardinals) April 11, 2025
April 11, 2025 at 4:52 pm #279156That is really good news to see Honeyman activated. I half expected him to stay injured all year.
Now let’s hope he is playing at least half his games in the field and plays well enough to be promoted to Peoria in June. At 23 he needs to be progressing above A ball quickly.
April 12, 2025 at 5:36 pm #279217
cardsfan64ParticipantOF Noah Mendlinger (AA) has been placed on the 7-day IL.
