If the Cardinals are desperate enough to have Stephen Matz as the 6th member of an early season starting rotation it’ll mean that the Redbirds begin the ’25 regular season with a W/L record of 0-6…
I see that the whiz-kids that decide the formation of the 26 man have elected to keep both Siani and Scott on the roster. I can somewhat understand their reasons for doing so, but taking into careful consideration the starting rotation of this team, it won’t matter if they place 4 or 5 CF’ers in the OF. Taters that travel 450 ft. are only caught by fans in cheap seats…
The fastest, cheapest and surest way to achieve success is to redefine success so that it encompasses whatever you did. Mo’s final season will be a success guaranteed.
As is typical, the composition of the ML roster will change within a week or two based on injury, performance, or both.
Winn ain’t playing every inning of every game at SS and Donovan isn’t really a SS.
Walker, Burleson, and Gorman all need plenty of ABs and – at this point – the math doesn’t work BUT things will probably work themselves out as THEY say (whoever THEY is).
I bet the starting rotation doesn’t make three turns before injury strikes and I’m not at all convinced Liberatore is a dependable starter. I guess this year is his last chance for romance in that regard?
Bring on the season and let the early over reactions (mine included) begin.

Matz was only worth 2.5 wins in his best year with Toronto. He projects best out of the pen, and the six-man rotation makes more sense if you are limiting the innings on Libby, McGreevy, Mathews, etc…
Cardinals released the following minor league players:
1B Ross Friedrick (PB)
OF Kade Kretzschmar (PEO)
1B William Sullivan (FCL)
SS Adari Grant (FCL)
OF Chris Rotondo (SPR)None of those are that surprising. Any words on the pitching side? I imagine there have to be quite a few cuts there as well.
Baseball America at one time picked Sullivan as their Cardinals sleeper prospect. Just goes to show you…
AlbertTheMachine – I agree. They need to give s few pitchers the opportunity for a fresh start someplace else. But then why did they acquire RHP Sean Harney?
mud, good reminder. It was Baseball Prospectus that ranked Sullivan 10th in the entire system just one year ago. They have a history of odd longshot choices as their #10. I trust BA more.
Harney is likely a bullpen depth guy. Can’t see him blocking anyone notable.
Sullivan was about as bad as you can get without dipping into Tre Fletcher territory. It was such an odd choice when Baseball Prospectus picked him. But they typically have one head scratcher out of nowhere long shot.
None of these guys was making the majors but Rotondo was at least a solid outfielder. Kretzschmar had a decent hit tool. I was a little surprised both were cut this early. I figured they each had a year left. I didn’t like Ross Friedrick at all and Grant just never could get above A ball.
It feels like it was only yesterday that Grant signed with St Louis, to much fanfare, out of the Bahamas. While young, he didn’t gain much traction and the team must have decided it was time to cut bait. That’s a sort of encouraging sign for the future, really.
Rotondo got a fair number of ST abs with the big club this Spring. I thought that meant they liked his potential
