March 13, 2025 at 7:48 am #277558Cardinals sign reliever Phil Maton, DFA Bailey Horn.
We have signed RHP Phil Maton to a one-year contract.
Maton had a 3.66 ERA in a combined 71 games for the Mets and Rays in the 2024 season. pic.twitter.com/68M8I6HNoh

March 13, 2025 at 10:28 am #277565The low hanging fruit the organization was looking for.
Not shocking as it appeared they were completely happy with the makeup of the right side of the pen. If he pitches like he did in NY and Houston we got a deal and if he pitches like he did early in his career and in Tampa we can dump him for salary relief.
March 13, 2025 at 1:53 pm #277572The #STLCards have optioned RHP Gordon Graceffo to the Triple-A Memphis roster, per the club.

cardsfan64ParticipantBrian, is this true?
The Cardinals have released Chandler Redmond
His biggest accomplishment as a member of the Cardinals system was hitting a home run cycle

cardsfan64ParticipantJust saw this on the transaction tracker:
03/19/25 – St. Louis Cardinals released C Chance Sisco.March 20, 2025 at 9:18 pm #277823Any ideas what happens with the AAA bullpen? I was trying to fill it out as I was curious what it may look like as we have way too many pitchers for AAA. Either some guys need to repeat a level they already have been at, or we are going to have to demote some others and release some others. I’m guessing these guys get released.

– Curtis Taylor
– Zach Weiss
– Nick RaquetMarch 22, 2025 at 8:46 pm #277875Source: RHP Nick Anderson is expected to trigger his upward mobility clause tomorrow.
Once triggered, 29 teams have 24 hours to claim him.
If a team claims him, the Cardinals then have 72 hours to put him on their 40-man roster.
Anderson has 5+ years of service time, meaning… pic.twitter.com/hQozCtCWb2

March 23, 2025 at 10:53 am #277884Matthew Liberatore opens season in rotation.
Steven Matz will be in bullpen, and then used later as a sixth starter when schedule demands.
Michael McGreevy will begin year in Memphis.
Roster is set. #stlcards

March 23, 2025 at 10:54 am #277885So, Fermin and Barrero go down so Scott and Siani stay.
We have optioned INF José Fermín and RHP Michael McGreevy to Memphis (AAA). Non-roster INF José Barrero has been re-assigned to the Memphis roster.
LHP Zack Thompson will be placed on the Injured List effective March 24.
Our Spring Training roster now stands at 26 players.

March 23, 2025 at 11:01 am #277886Good summary.
Just to keep track of all the #Stlcards notable moves:
-Victor Scott II will be the #OpeningDay center fielder
-Matthew Liberatore will be fifth starter
-Steven Matz will start in the bullpen and join the rotation on April 16th
-Michael McGreevy will start the season in…— Brooke Grimsley (@BrookeGrimsley) March 23, 2025
March 23, 2025 at 11:27 am #277888Most interesting . . . I had called Matz to the bullpen long ago. But never did I expect Liberatore to beat out McGreevey for the rotation. McGreevey has been excellent all Spring and end of last season.
I guess McGreevey will likely be pitching in Gray’s spot when they decide he’s hurt and going to the IL.
Carrying Siani and Scott at the same time makes no sense to me. It would be ok if we had backup SS covered. But we don’t.

March 23, 2025 at 12:17 pm #277893McGreevy in Memphis? I don’t understand that one unless it is service time manipulation. He has 14 days of service time, so as long as he is up for 157 days or less this year, McGreevy will not earn a full year of service time. I assume that is roughly the beginning of May we will see him then.
Halfway surprised Libby got the rotation spot over Matz, but I like it. Shoot your shot with Libby and hope it goes well.
Confused about both Scott and Siani. I’m glad Scott is the starting CF though.
March 23, 2025 at 12:19 pm #277894I guess this makes Donovan the utility guy who will play as much as the starters. One of Donovan, Noot, Scott, Walker, Arenado, Winn, and Gorman will sit most every night (save an occasional game with one as DH, but that forces Contreras, Herrera, or Burly to the bench…), with proportions of missing varying some. When Herrera, Contreras, or Burly sits, Pages starts. Baker and Siani starts are very, very rare. Baker serves as PH, Siani as PR and defensive sub late in the OF.
It will be interesting to see how the 6 man rotation goes. I’m glad Liberatore is getting one more shot at the rotation, and given that it makes sense to let McGreevy stay stretched out and ready to go when there’s an injury or trade.
March 23, 2025 at 12:42 pm #277897Carrying both Scott and Siani is strange indeed. Having no backup SS is also strange. If Winn gets hurt during a game I guess Donovan would fill in. It all seems unnecessary to me.
