According to Fangraphs, Munoz has one option left.
November 3, 2024 at 2:45 pm #271098According to Baseball America Transaction for October 1-29, the Cards signed a few minor leaguers:
Signed: RHP Angel Cuenca (A)
Signed: RHP Pedro Olivero (DSL)
Signed: RHP Dionys Rodriguez (AA)
Signed: C Gavin Collins (AAA)
Signed: C Chance Sisco (AAA)
Signed: 3B Ramon Mendoza (AAA)
Signed: IF Beiker Rodriguez (DSL)
Signed: OF Matt Lloyd (AA)
Signed: OF Darlin Moquete (A+)I can’t find any info on the two DSL players they have signed.
November 3, 2024 at 3:09 pm #271099It’s interesting that both Collins and Cisco will be back catching at AAA. Both are AAAA guys with lots of minor league experience. That tells us that Pages isn’t going back since surely Crooks is moving up. That means the Cardinals are either carrying 3 catchers or planning to trade one. That was always the most likely scenario, but now it makes it official.
I like that Matt Lloyd is returning. I don’t think he’ll make it, but he did make a case for himself as a solid hitter. From what I saw of him, he’s a very poor defender so he’s going to need to hit a ton. I’m really curious whether or not Brian Torres is now a minor league free agent or if he signed a multi year deal when he came on board to the Cardinals.
Rodriguez and Moquete were once prospects. They’re both on the outer fringes now having not advanced quickly enough.
Mendoza is now like the backup to the emergency backup if everyone were to get hurt. He can play all over the infield, but he doesn’t hit that well.
November 3, 2024 at 5:36 pm #271107We faced Munoz on June 18th @ Marlins.
Blew him up.November 4, 2024 at 9:35 pm #271150Saw this on X tonight:
Packy Naughton announced on Instagram that he signed a two-year minor league deal with the Cardinals. He re-tore his flexor and tore his UCL while rehabbing this summer and had Tommy John and another flexor repair in July, so he will miss all of 2025.

November 5, 2024 at 1:59 am #271170My boy Packy is back. I believe he’s from Southie
Someone in this organization still believes in him. Bloom maybe?
November 5, 2024 at 8:30 am #271173Another DSL player released per MiLB transaction page.
11/03/24 – DSL Cardinals released OF Fernando Roquez.November 5, 2024 at 11:17 am #271183Here is the official post from the Cardinals:

November 5, 2024 at 11:28 am #271184The main one I am glad to see back is Paniagua. I keep holding out hope he adds some muscle and ends up being a late bloomer and can contribute to the bullpen some day.
November 5, 2024 at 2:31 pm #271194I agree. Paniagua is really interesting to me as well. The overall results haven’t been there, but the stuff looks good. Maybe a bit better control and refinement can get him the bump he needs.
November 6, 2024 at 7:58 am #271218One name I did not notice on the signings list was Torres. Anyone know if he will be a free agent or I we have him for another year?
November 6, 2024 at 11:06 am #271232PadsFSParticipantMan that is a lot of injury to overcome for Naughton
November 6, 2024 at 1:54 pm #271262Per Katie Woo, a minor league signing:
The Cardinals have signed right-handed reliever Michael Gomez to a minor-league deal. He posted a 5.04 ERA over 39 appearances for AAA Durham (Rays affiliate) last year, but racked up a career-high 10.9 K/9 rate. He’ll likely be a NRI come spring training. #STLCards

November 6, 2024 at 1:57 pm #271263I guess it’s not surprising they signed Paniagua.
November 6, 2024 at 3:11 pm #271283I think I found the answer to my own question above about Torres. Baseball America lists Gamboa as our only minor league free agent. I find that odd since in another place, these names came up as free agents:
Oswaldo Berrios
Arquimedes Gamboa
Henry Gomez
Nathanael Heredia
Bryan TorresAnyone have a place where we can find out if they are indeed free agents or not?
November 6, 2024 at 3:40 pm #271285Brian addressed this with me a couple months back on the member’s forum when I was trying to ascertain which guys were minor league free agents of the guys who came to us from Indy ball or as minor league free agents. Brian said sometimes these guys sign a multi-year deal when they come over so it’s possible that’s the case for Torres. But we don’t really have a way of knowing for certain. We got Berrios late in the season so I’d guess he’s under contract for 2025 as well.
November 16, 2024 at 1:44 pm #271836Sources: Cuban SS/CF Jose Barrero has agreed with the St. Louis Cardinals on a minor-league deal with an invitation to MLB camp.

November 19, 2024 at 3:04 pm #272025RHP Tink Hence, RHP Tekoah Roby, OF Matt Koperniak and RHP Matt Svanson have been added to the 40-player roster, which now stands at 39.

November 19, 2024 at 3:57 pm #272031The #stlcards have added RHP Tink Hence, RHP Tekoah Roby, OF Matt Koperniak and RHP Matt Svanson to their 40-man roster. LHP Drew Rom was outrighted to Memphis. (I only batted .500 in my predictions.) (free) https://t.co/yege3tNVl4 pic.twitter.com/fnxu6JO52o

November 22, 2024 at 6:52 pm #272183At Friday evening’s deadline, the #stlcards non-tendered pitcher Adam Kloffenstein and tendered 2025 contracts to all their other 40-man roster players. https://t.co/ws7cR8ZK9T pic.twitter.com/CaQ1SPCM2d

November 22, 2024 at 10:10 pm #272198I wondered how they were going to make room. There goes my #20 prospect.
I thought it was odd when they added Svanson. There were already so many pitchers on the 40-man. I thought at the time that means a couple guys are being shipped out either by trade or non-tender. I guess this is the first domino. If I were guessing, Matz will be the second in a trade.
November 23, 2024 at 11:39 am #272215They could have outrighted Kloffenstein like they did with Rom, couldn’t they? My conspiracy theory is that Kloffenstein didn’t want to cooperate with whatever the org wanted to do about his injury. Similar to how Mitch Harris wanted to go with a procedure besides what the org wanted and he got offed.
November 23, 2024 at 11:49 am #272217They could have, yes. If I were guessing and this is just a pure guess, his shoulder injury became a shoulder surgery and he would have missed most of ‘25. No reason to hold a roster space over the winter for him if that’s the case. If he’s not hurt and they just needed the roster space, then I think Loutos or Roycroft would have been a DFA candidate instead.
I liked Adam, but he was likely going to be an up and down starter or middle/long relief. In my prospect rankings, I already had him behind Bedell, Robberse, Graceffo, and Rajcic so to me this isn’t any kind of loss. I wish him the best.
November 23, 2024 at 12:09 pm #272218Seems an odd line of theorizing coming from someone who regularly criticizes the organization for keeping pitchers with shoulder problems around.
November 23, 2024 at 12:36 pm #272220The Cardinals don’t like to give up on bum shoulder guys, so there must have been an added factor.
