I wonder how Saggasse would be in LF. He looks like he could be a super util player ala Edman and Donny when they first came up. It may be good to get him some time in the corner OF spots.

Now I wonder what shuffling will take place in the minors to cover the OF hole that Walker left in Memphis?

Memphis I believe is 6-7 games out of a playoff spot. Would they play around with Ivan out there? He’s going to need a new position it appears if he’s going to stick here. Then again he may not be here much past the fall.

Except for this stint at the beginning of this 2024 season, Saggese has always been able to hit, hit, hit in the minors. How about platooning Saggese with Gorman at 2B. I’d like to see what his defense looks like and, also, we might be able to get some reliable offense out of 2B. Saggese (and Walker) are both RH batters.

Hopefully Mo can find one guy who can play 2B every day.

What is the Palm Beach “Development List”?

It’s kind of a negative thing for hitters but not so much for pitchers. Basically, the players continue to practice and work out with the team but they don’t count against the team’s roster and can’t appear in games. If the FCL were still playing, they could have been demoted. But since their season is over, they just stuck these guys on the development list. Since the Jupiter complex is right down the road from the Palm Beach complex, it’s likely these guys went there to work on their games for a couple of weeks. Or, maybe they just got a couple weeks off to watch and work out only. I’m not certain.

Sometimes teams use this designation for pitchers to give their arm a rest. But with hitters, it seems like more of a negative to me.

No, it is not a positive. Both players were demoted from Peoria at the end of July. At least Baez gets to play for Palm Beach for the rest of the season. It appears Sullivan is done for 2024.

Didn’t see all that coming. They are determined to jerk Walker’s chain until his head pops off.

When Carpenter got hurt I thought it made sense to bring Baker up. Now that Carp is back, I’m completely confused by this transaction. Why bring Walker up at all? There must be something behind the scenes we don’t know. Surely, right?

I guess we solved the 40 man roster problem for when Matz returns. So there’s that.

I thought Crawford was necessary as SS backup.

I’ll give you one thing. He shouldn’t have been here to begin with. He should’ve been put in Memphis and stayed there when he was demoted the first time.

IMO the rest is on the player to produce. He hasn’t really done that anywhere he’s been this year. So if we want to throw blame out let’s throw a little (or a lot) his way.

Crawford really hadn’t played much recently and with our recent down turn allow us to bring another player up in September from AAA for a tryout.

Bling, I think at this point Crawford is expendable because of the following:

    1) He’s almost never used.
    2) He’s left handed like most of the lineup.
    3) There isn’t much season left so the risk window of needing him is smaller.
    4) They have to add Saggese to the 40-man anyway by season end so he becomes the backup plan.
    5) Donovan must be able to play there in a pinch. I’m guessing Arenado would be the emergency SS if it came to that for a partial game.

Still, it’s a bit risky. But are we really playing for anything at this point?

The funny thing is we now have a bench of Baker, Capenter, and Pages that can account for backing up just 2 positions. The rest get covered by VSII or our DH.

Two first basemen and a catcher. That could be the most disfunctional bench of all time. It reminds me of one time I found one of those emergency tool kits in the trunk of a car my kid bought. I opened the the little socket set and there was a 7 mm socket and a ratchet with a bent handle and that was it.
