The last guy in the bullpen can usually get more action than the last guy on the bench. Last year we had a lot of mop up opportuities unfortunately.
February 4, 2024 at 2:56 pm #242418Brian, Gibson has a space for him on the Matrix but his name isn’t in it.
February 4, 2024 at 4:59 pm #242422I must have inadvertently deleted him when moving around the relievers in the next column. Fixed now. Thanks.

cardsfan64ParticipantWe have traded RHP Guillermo Zuñiga to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations.

February 7, 2024 at 2:47 pm #242498He was traded in exchange for cash considerations? Sounds like Zuniga’s been victimized by a human trafficking ring…
February 12, 2024 at 5:33 am #242614When can players be moved to the 60 day IL?
I imagine we will see some FA signings or other transactions around MLB once slots on 40 man rosters can be opened up.
February 12, 2024 at 6:39 am #242615Bling – I am pretty sure they have to wait for opening day to be moved to the 60-day IL.
February 12, 2024 at 7:13 am #242619Players may be placed on the 60-day IL as soon as pitchers and catchers officially report. However, the 60-day clock does not begin until Opening Day.

cardsfan64ParticipantHe’s Baaaaack!
We have signed RHP Jacob Bosiokovic to a minor league contract for the 2024 season.
Bosiokovic, 30, played in our system from 2021-22 and returns after pitching for the Atlantic League's Charleston Dirty Birds in 2023, accumulating a 3.35 ERA and 12.1 SO/9 over 44 appearances. pic.twitter.com/ecniEOTvfb

February 12, 2024 at 11:06 am #242629Thanks for the info on the 60IL. Report day is tomorrow.
February 13, 2024 at 1:33 pm #242677
cardsfan64ParticipantBrian, am I reading the info correctly that we will have to cut the combined rosters of our MiLB teams down to 165 by the time the season begins? I think I also read that any 60-IL placements don’t count toward that total. If I count right, our current minor league rosters are at 170, not including any DSL players they may bring up to Florida. Guessing some cuts or 60 day IL placements will occur by the end of March.
February 13, 2024 at 1:43 pm #242680It seems like they always cut a few guys every Spring. We need to lighten the load on some pitchers so if look for several of them to go.
February 14, 2024 at 12:13 am #242694Brian, I believe Bosiokovic’s first name is Jacob, not Jason.

Based simply on last year’s results there are very few players from FCL and DSL that deserve promotion. Getting rid of the State College and Johnson City teams is looking detrimental. But hey, Dollar Bill Dewitt gets to save a few bucks.

Does anyone know if MLB orgs had been required to have affiliates in short season leagues like the Appy and NY-Penn? I think everyone had them, but I wonder if they had to.

That is correct, almost. However, it is not all minor league teams. It is the Domestic Reserve List. That does not include the DSL.
I don’t see the Cardinals having trouble making that target.

If I am going to mess up a name in one place, it may as well be in the title, where everyone can see it! Seriously, thanks for the correction…

I don’t know for sure, but I think there has been a floor. Otherwise certain organizations considerably more frugal than the Cards would have taken advantage.
On the ceiling end, multiple organizations have had more than the base two rookie teams (US and DSL). That enabled them to feel less of an impact after the SS-A and Rookie Advanced levels were eliminated. But in the recent years, the Cards dropped to two rookie teams from three.
So the Cards’ overall post-COVID drop is three teams and about 100 players. The remaining players received salary increases, living arrangements and other benefits they should have had all along.
February 24, 2024 at 1:28 pm #243009IF Jacob Buchberger is playing on the split squad in the v Marlins game right now, but he isn’t shown in the matrix as a non-roster invitee and isn’t listed on the Cardinals site in that capacity either. Is this a one-off because of the split squad or will he remain in the start of major-league camp?
February 24, 2024 at 2:49 pm #243012Here’s your answer.
Big day for at least eight minors STEP Campers who donned the Birds on the Bat in today's two #stlcards games: OFs Won-Bin Cho, Mike Antico, Joshua Baez, Alex Iadisernia. IFs Chandler Redmond, Nick Dunn, Brody Moore, Jacob Buchberger all played against Mets/Marlins.

February 25, 2024 at 5:42 pm #243054Hey Brian – is there a reason the Roster Matrix no longer appears in the menu from my phone? I can still look it up on a search, but it used to be in the menu. I noticed it the other day and thought maybe it was getting updated. It’s now been around a week though and it still is MIA.
February 25, 2024 at 5:44 pm #243055Interestingly, if I click on Wednesdays with Walton, then I can find it. So when you added that particular link, it somehow hid the old Roster Matrix.
February 25, 2024 at 9:34 pm #243063There is only so much space on the top menu bar. I made the decision to replace Roster Matrix with the returned Wednesdays With Walton.
However, the other quick way to get to the Matrix remains same as always. On a computer, it is the very first item on the left menu, “ROSTERS, PLAYERS, MOVES”. On a phone, that menu is on midway down every page on the site and the forum. It is in red, just beneath the page’s regular content.
It was there all the time, but you may not have scrolled down the page far enough on your phone to see it.
Hope that helps…
February 26, 2024 at 5:51 am #243066I see. Instead of being in the menu like it was, it’s now just there at the bottom of the home page. Thanks.
