Rivas seems to be a LH version of Rangel Ravelo.
I don’t know if there’s anything to this idea. But could it be that they bring in another lefthanded bat for Memphis just so the pitchers get more experience at pitching to a LH batter?
Well, its not as though we’re overloaded with outfielders in the upper system. Mayber he’ll take PAs away from Siani or Lloyd.

Nice list Pads. The organization has been hyper-focused on adding these guys lately. I’m mostly supportive. They are basically free assets and a couple of them might end up being semi-valuable. I’m only opposed when they are blocking players with more potential or like in Rivas’ case where we have to lose a potentially better player in order to add Rivas (Gomez).
Prieto, as noted, doesn’t really qualify as AAAA. At least not yet. I like the Riley O’Brien, Josh James, and Michael Siani acquisitions the best here. I also liked the Richie Palacios signing last season (and posted about him as being a Rule 5 guy I’d keep prior to him coming up and doing well in the Majors). The others on the list above all just feel like organizational depth.
Prediction time! Coming off DFA, will Moises Gomez:
1) Clear waivers and report to the minors?
2) Be claimed by another organization?
3) Be traded?
4) Be released?It’s possible that any of the above could happen. Rosters are bulging for everyone right now and there’s still players to sign. I do think that someone will want to give him a shot though. So I’m going with traded – #3. I don’t think we’re getting much back. Perhaps a semi-interesting Low A Outfielder who’s someone’s #40 prospect.
I think he clears and reports. I think if he had any value he would have been traded by now. But we are light in the OF in the upper system, so not released.

Really? As I see it we have a top notch left fielder, a right fielder who probably won’t stick in the outfield, a UT covering CF. We have a 4th OF who is really only playable vs LHP, and we don’t have a 5th OF who is playable at all. And behind that, we have no depth, until hopefully Scott pans out at some point.
I don’t know who writes that stuff. They must cut and paste from old media guides handed out last spring or something.
I think Walker could possibly live up to the demands of a LF’er position and I can’t understand why Nootbar’s not slated for RF. And anytime Carlson gets a start vs. LHP, he should be manned up in RF with Walker moving over to the least demanding OF position in LF. In my view, continuing to have Walker man up in RF defies simple logic. I’ll also add that although I feel he’s capable of turning in an above average performance over the course of a substantial number of games and innings, I’ll be highly surprised if the Cardinals win anything at all with Tommy Edman as their primary CF’er.
I am glad that Gomez is staying with the organization, at least for now. I like his power potential.
However, we have seen this movie before. As I recall Adolis Garcia passed through waivers unclaimed once or maybe twice and was eventually sold to the Rangers for the price of a Sonic cheeseburger. We all know what happened after that.
My guess is that Gomez won’t stay in the Cardinal organization for the entirety of the 2024 season. Someone will eventually take a chance on him.
Barring injuries, Middleton, Kittredge, Helsley, King, Romero, Gallegos, and Fernandez filling 7 bullpen spots this leaves 1 open spot.
If 27’s list turns out to be correct, then Pallante or Thompson for the last slot, whichever is still here by opening day.
Another factoid to keep in mind is that over the last six years, on average three pitchers opened the season on the Cardinals’ IL. So, many of these questions will likely work themselves out during camp. Depth is never bad.
We can’t forget that Nick Robertson exists, since he could arrive on the MLB scene for us very quickly. He has a history of looking good right up through AAA and there is no reason to think he won’t look good this spring. If nothing else, Mo has got us some swing and miss arms this winter and I don’t think Mo will be slow to roll them out.
Another factor is that Ryan Fernandez is a rule 5 guy. Will that give him a slight advantage of going north if the stats are equal?
It would be easier to carry him for a while as an end of the bench guy if we aren’t carrying several end of the bench guys like we always seemed to be doing last year.
