The article predicts that they will skip Matz next start while they think about Liberatore.

I agree. Motter adds nothing. But they already flip flopped on him once. It would just add to a very odd chain of events to cut him loose again after he hasn’t played since rejoining the team last week.

Replacing the last guy on the bench, which is Motter, isn’t going to matter (unless his replacement is Ohtani!).

Well, that ain’t likely. Matz is starting the Cardinals’ next game, Tuesday night against the Angels. The article is interesting discussion fodder, I guess, but that is about it, IMO.

Still, it was done for some reason. Unless I hear something better, I am going with they thought they had a deal working which would move a middle infielder, and they suddenly needed MLB ready backfill pronto. Then it didn’t happen, so now they don’t need the backfill.

Trades this time of year are rare, not impossible, but unlikely.

My guess is that they thought Motter would report to Triple-A, but when he instead declared free agency, they decided they wanted to keep him. The only way to do that was to put him back on the 40-man roster.

    Holgate was quite a bust.

I agree, Bling! Seems like he started off hot and quickly went cold and stayed that way when healthy. I was hoping he would be a big bat for our future!

If two catchers is good, three is better.

I think they did that because they like to use Contreras as DH against LH pitchers. I guess I would rather have Barrera on the roster than Motter.

Maybe firing your scputs a few years back would have prevented thos Contreras signing. The one move they made in offseason appears to be an abject failure. The thoughts going through my head wouldgetme banned on this site if I posted them. Good lawd.

It has to be Marmol’s fault. It just has to be.

Woodford is missing from the Roster Matrix. Must have inadvertently gotten erased instead of being put on the IL.

Yes, I was moving him from the starter to reliever column as well. Mistake corrected. Thanks for pointing it oud.

Motter – well, the bbq is good in Memphis and they play in a fairly nice AAA stadium although it’s over 20 years old now.

Maybe he can help them win a title.
