Looks like it mainly going to be pitching and defense again. Lots of low scoring, nail biting games.
And that is only if the pitching and defense hold up.
Who is this Jager and when did he get replaced with Nate? I suspect the defense will be great all year and the pitching will be more than adequate. I also think that the hitting will be better than people think. This is a 90+ win team.
Cabrera looked great in the first. K’ed the lead off hitter, Altuve popped out foul then Bregman grounded out. He looks in control more than on Sat.
Lane Thomas just got a two run bomb to left center. Hopefully he gets on track now, I’m holding out hope it’s a tough decision to start him or Bader in CF. They clearly need offense even if it means sacrificing a little D.
Generous home team scoring of a single on a ball deep to short. Covering on the shift, 3B Edman's throw sailed high and pulled the 1Bman off the bag. Cabrera stranded the runner. That IF hit was his only runner allowed with 2Ks in two innings. Looked sharp.

Cabrera with two great innings, the box score shows that but he looked “in control” if that can be visualized. Breaking pitches and heater both seemed to be located well.
Extremely small sample size alert, but if he keeps that up his name should be in the starting options conversation.
Some dude named Bregman then added a solo HR off Rondon and the score is tied.

Apparently getting out of Roger Dean was good for the hitters and not so great for the pitching staff. Nice to see the lefties look good though.
Brad Miller drove in Paul DeJong on a single off top Astros prospect Forrest Whitley to put the Cards back ahead, 4-3.
2021 Top 50 prospect Ivan Herrera drives in two more with a nice single. He’s impressive to say the least.
Lane Thomas tried a diving catch on a sinking liner in CF, but missed and Astros OF Myles Straw circled the bases for an inside the park solo HR charged to reliever Ramon Santos.

Griffin Roberts has a nice looking breaking ball. It would be nice to see him get traction this year.
Roberts stuff was a little wild, but was moving and had some zip it appeared. However, it looked like he didn’t want to be there? Did anyone else pick up on that?
Roberts’ slider is his bread and butter. It is the best slider in the system according to BaseballHQ. He never shows any emotion on the mound.
Williams again looking shaky in the OF. He made a less than full effort to try to catch a foul ball, such that the Astros broadcaster called him “alligator arms”. On the inside the parker earlier, Williams retrieved the ball after Thomas dived and missed but his throw back in was a rainbow that was nowhere close to anyone in particular.
(Update: Upon review of the video, Williams did not get to the ball until it had almost stopped rolling at the CF wall. By then, the runner was half-way to third. But it was Wong who made the bad throw on the relay.)
The Astros coach booted was pitching coach Brent Strom. He was arguing balls and strikes from the dugout too vehemently, apparently. Strom used to be the Cards minor league pitching coordinator. He is a good one, IMO.
The Cards beat the Astros 7-5 after Dobzanski allowed a long homer in the 9th.
