The bite on Cecils breaking pitch was nasty.
If he can keep that up and be accurate enough to be able to throw that pitch he could be a big weapon
February 23, 2020 at 8:07 am #123347John Gant starts Monday against the Marlins and will pitch two innings. Followed by Helsley for 2, and then 1 for Fernandez, Thompson, Seijas, Liberatore, Whitley. #stlcards

February 23, 2020 at 8:11 am #123348I didn’t realize the Mets were playing split squad games yesterday so we didn’t get a peak at some of their big guns and we held back Wong, DeJong and Bader for today’s game at Pt St Lucie with them
Some former Cards spotted in the box scores – Pete Kozma played some 2b for the Braves and got a hit. Jose Martinez played FIRST BASE and got a hit for TB. Randy Aroz also played RF for the Rays and chipped in a double. Matt Adams played for the Mets split squad against the Marlins
Question: Noticed in the box score that Lane Thomas was given a Caught Stealing but was awarded the base because the pitcher balked. Could not the balk have resulted in the CS and just either a steal or no play awarded?
Another Question: How ya gonna keep Carlson down on da farm if he continues getting 2 hits and an rbi in every game? I know, I know, it’s what’s best for da team. But da boy duz have a gud stroke does he not?
February 23, 2020 at 8:24 am #123351Carlos Martínez will follow Wainwright’s two innings/35 pitches today as well. #STLCards https://t.co/jygtgFnBKi

Well, his competition to start in left hit a HR with 115 mph exit velo. So there’s that…
February 23, 2020 at 8:28 am #123353Bader leading off should be interesting. Nice to see Carlson and some of the other good prospects getting more game time.

Hmmm, I can see already that we are picking sides…lol I like ONeil too but there may be room for two extra OFs. So far Carlson hasn’t come down with the ‘wiffer bug.’ I think Springfield was ready to name a street for him…..lol.
February 23, 2020 at 8:42 am #123355I will side with MM3. If Carlson gets 2 hits and an RBI every game they wont be able to send Carlson down. But if a few of those games he only gets one hit – he’s out of here!
February 23, 2020 at 8:56 am #123356Early start for today’s game and I know most of you will be in church. The game will be shown later on MLB around dinner time.
February 23, 2020 at 9:00 am #123357By process of elimination…
Austin Gomber indeed starts Tuesday for the #stlcards. Alex Reyes to follow.

Thanks CC. Another thought. If Harry’s son has a bad looking bat in ST and if he has options might he not be sent down to ‘rehab his bat.’ His last rehab worked wonders but they turned out to be temporary wonders. Ahh such fun is theorizing based on spring training.
February 23, 2020 at 9:10 am #123359Very, very small sample but appeared that O’Neill was more patient and more selective at the plate.

Tyler O’Neill with K and BB rates near what he put up in Memphis in 2018 is a perennial All Star.
February 23, 2020 at 12:27 pm #123366Carlson would have to have a in his prime Pujuols like spring to go north with the team. I think it is in everyone’s best interest if he starts in Memphis.
February 23, 2020 at 12:42 pm #123367Bader HR to CF in the first gave the Cards a brief lead, but Wainwright gave it back on a Marisnick long ball in the second.
February 23, 2020 at 12:47 pm #123368Wainwright needed 39 pitches to get through 1 2/3 innings. Pulled after walking the no. 9 hitter Tebow. Angel Rondon in.

stlcard25ParticipantBader now with a HR and a double on the day. Solid start to his spring.
February 23, 2020 at 1:23 pm #123370Munoz doubled off first base on a fly ball to right. Not smart baseball.
February 23, 2020 at 1:38 pm #123372Martinez struggled more than Wainwright. Leaves at 35 pitches with one run already in, the bases loaded and one out in his second inning of work.
As good as Flaherty, Hudson and Kim looked yesterday, Wainwright and Martinez were shaky today.
February 23, 2020 at 1:38 pm #123373Where has our ST announcer Pugs been?
February 23, 2020 at 1:42 pm #123374Not smart baseball.
Same with Williams yesterday. I guess the marginal roster guys feel like they’ve got to make a splash and end up doing dumb things
Unfortunatley, CMart picking up where he left off last year.
February 23, 2020 at 1:46 pm #123375Last I knew, Pugs was having problems with his phone making comments on the forum. Haven’t heard from him in several weeks.
Mets lead 3-1 in the fifth. Ramon Santos did as good as he could considering the mess he inherited. Max Schrock made a nice running catch.
February 23, 2020 at 1:49 pm #123376Wished Rondon would have pitchded longer. Santos might be an interesting pitcher to watch. He is striking out more batters. Granted, at lower level minors.
February 23, 2020 at 1:59 pm #123377Not disrespecting Waino, but I’d like to see one of our youngsters shine, and maybe use Waino out of the pen. He’d be a heck of weapon. But there is lot of games to be played. It is pretty cool to watch all of these pitchers on a starters program.
February 23, 2020 at 2:05 pm #123378I’m pretty sure Munoz was stealing when he got doubled up. It’s possible it was a poorly executed hit and run too.
Also, Carlos was throwing his fastball mostly at 90 mph. I think the highest I saw was 92. Plenty of time still to ramp up to max effort.
