I’m reluctant to say it, but I think Gomber was flashing No.1 or No.2 stuff when he pitched yesterday. If he can maintain that, I think he could be an elite pitcher.

It will be interesting to compare the Fowler, Thomas, and Carlson at bats. Not just the results, but also how they go about their business.
Schrock getting a lot of playing time. Wonder what is up with that. He has had two very forgettable AAA seasons.

Wednesday following Flaherty, also available to pitch are RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon, RHP Junior Fernandez and RHP Kodi Whitley.

Wong just had a beyond spectacular play. He dove to the SS side of 2B, as he was falling, flipped the ball, from his glove, to DeJong and they turned the double play. Words can not describe how great it was.

Reyes gives up a run in the 5th while striking out the side. After giving up a leadoff double on a bad 0-2 pitch, he settled in on the next two batters with some very good breaking pitches, and then gave up an RBI-single on a solid hit. Some promising signs, but needs to develop consistency.
Reyes continues to be frustratingly close to looking great. Strikes out 3 batters, but ahead in the count throws a couple meatball pitches down the middle to allow a run.
Spring Training is about ironing things out to be ready for the season. I’m just happy to see that Alex is pitching.
Liberatore with a good clean inning. That’s nice to see. Reyes finished off his two innings with 4 Ks.
GC, I haven’t been the least bit impressed with Montero at the plate or in the field. If they feel Gorman is ready for AA, Montero shouldn’t be a reason to not promote him.
I was speaking of Montero the other day when I mentioned that some of the Cards looked a bit ‘beefy.’ Today he looked a bit terrible. Has a cannon for an arm but has no idea of where the cannonball is going after it is fired.
Reyes was topping out at 91 mph today, a far cry from 98 a couple years ago. I was impressed with Oviedo yesterday and believe he is a top prospect.
UncleD, I believe one of the announcers mentioned 95 in the first inning he pitched and his change was at 88.
When trying to establish greater consistency in both mechanics and results, one common approach is to dial back on maximum velocity.
That’s true, Brian. Still, very few pitchers in today’s game can excel with low 90s heat. Hopefully he’s just trying to get the mechanics right and the arm speed will come back.
