Thanks, Brian!
Are there any available listening or viewing options for the AFL games?
bccran, Mike O’Reilly…. not Bill. I guess I should not have tried typing in my choices at 5 AM when I had only been awake for a few minutes. Next round I will make sure I have had some caffeine first….

14Nyquist, I agree with you 100 percent about looking at age and the level a player is playing! The Cardinals have several good young prospects who are producing AND moving through the system very quickly. One surely can’t ignore it when the numbers and stats prove worthiness! 🙂
bccran, I see you have Knizner listed at .820. The Milb site has him listed with 182 at bats in Springfield with an OPS of .833; at Peoria he had 179 at bats with an OPS of .805. I am guessing the .820 is an average?
The whole idea that a player should be ranked based upon past draft order OR continue to be highly ranked when they have not performed is ridiculous. Only those players who perform, produce, and persevere deserve the recognition. Draft order is an indication of possible potential… if one does not live up to the expectation or outright bombs, draft order position should not keep a player in the rankings. Simply put, prove it or lose it!

At Springfield he he had a slow start in June, but he caught fire and was batting at something like .425 with 20+ multiple hit games for the month of July. Martinez was promoted to Springfield just before the Springfield season’s end. He played one game there before he was sent to Memphis because Jenner unexpectedly went on the DL ; the Springfield team was in the midst the battle for a playoff spot, and with Knizner being so reliable, he was most likely kept at Springfield as the best option to assist in the playoff battle. Surprised that Martinez was the choice to fill in for Jenner at Memphis, but can see why Knizner was kept in place at double A. When comparing the stats of the two, Knizner definitely had a better season. Glad to see Martinez is stepping up and showing some progress after a fairly stagnant Palm Beach run.
PS… Knizner’s offensive stats were on par with other players with longer time at the double A level. Splitting seasons between Peoria and Springfield kept him out of the running for any league recognition.14NyquisT, what do you foresee “in the cards” during the next year for the other promising prospects in the farm system if Molina stays put?

Amen, Eurowolf…. lol!
14Nyguist, agree with you on Mendoza. He did well at NC State and is doing an awesome job at State College! Knizner was pretty good at 3rd while at State, too. If I recall, he was a Freshman All American at 3B before being asked to convert to catcher. Glad to see these former Wolfpack boys doing such a good job.
Looking forward to a mid-season update from Brian Walton.
