The Dodgers get Yamamoto and Skubal in back-to-back games. We counter with rookies Mautz and Mathews. The Dodgers get Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman in their lineup. We counter with Baez, Saggese, and Torres. It’s a good thing the baseball gods made this game so unpredictable.
Underperfoming guaranteed contract guys not earning their keep is business as usual. Our contract guy is out with a boo boo risking whatever chance a .240 hitter has at ROY.
And looking at today’s starters at the top of the thread i see that we have not one but two starters with 5+ ERA. Sigh. That’s 40 % of the rotation. Sigh.
But we are very likely to win again tonight so who cares about all that. Winning is the measure of everything.
Don’t we have a promising prospect somewhere in the system who could finish out the season at third getting some useful ABs rather than continue to waste time and energy watching Gorman rack up Ks? He’s had enough runway to land a 747. I don’t think he can be “rebuilt.”
If the Cardinal brain trust sees Saggese as the 3b of the future, fine. Play him. If not, find somebody else. But it won’t be NG.
Do any of you posters think that Gastelum looks just like Michael Wacha? With longer hair, of course.

Saggese is really hitting right now. Might as well go with the hot hand and let him play 3B for awhile. Of course with JJ and Winn both out he is the only viable SS we have. I think Winn is supposed to be back soon.
If you exclude the hapless season record against the Brewers, the Cardinals now boast a W/L record of 13-4 against teams that are currently situated in 1st place. That’s pretty good. It’s just too bad that they probably won’t be competing against any of these 1st place teams in Oct.
Saggese has without question been ripping the baseball the last few games. The only problem is that he wasn’t generating any production at all back in April, May, or the early part of June before the Cardinals decided to pack it in for the season. Timing is everything. Especially in baseball.
Love our boys and their glistening spirit, but for tonight’s game we have literally no chance of attaining victory. Hopefully we can make the game somewhat contentious……..but I wouldn’t count on it. Even with this evenings loss, the Cards have still owned these Dodgers in 2026. The future of this team that we so love is a hundred times brighter than any of us imagined in our wildest dreams coming into this season. We all should feel blessed for the fun and excitement that awaits we fans for the foreseeable future.
It might stir up a bit of a ruckus if one of the Cardinal pitchers were to come perilously up and in to, or victimize Ohtani or one of the other Dodger sluggers by a HBP during this final game out in Dodgerland. I mean, the Cardinals are 4-1 vs. the Dodgers thus far this season and the defending WS champs are in danger of being swept and humiliated by the Redbirds in front of their faithful Dodger fans. A HBP may come across as salt in the wound. Roberts made his bones when the unwritten rules of the game still applied, so I’d expect him to take offense if one of his star players was once again placed in jeopardy.

I need someone who has access to a pre or post game reporter to get them to ask Marmol what in the hell he is doing starting Pages rather than letting Bernal just play C. It was bad enough Herrera did yesterday, but now 2 games in a row and this time with a guy who has no role on this roster at all getting the start.
I’m sticking with my simple explanation regarding the decisions made concering who mans up behind HP. These decisions are based entirely on preventing the glibbets from rubbing on the twitchets.
The Springfield Cardinals just took 6 walks in a row to start the top of the second. They lead 5-0 and don’t have a hit.
Don’t be talking bad about my boy Pedro! He’s the Oquendo of the modern era – catcher, pitcher, 1B, 2B – he can play it all!
I have to think most Dodgers fans looking at our lineup tonight are saying “Who are those guys?” Aside from Walker and Herrera (and maybe Baez because of his first game hype), I’m sure 99% of Dodgers fans haven’t heard of another player in our lineup. It’s Jordan Walker and some guys he picked up at the local city park vs the best team money can buy.
I’m not sure exactly what the grand total was, but I recall listening to a Cardinal/Phillie game on KMOX played at Veteran’s Stadium in the early 90’s in which the Phillie’s SP’er led off the game by handing over enough consecutive BB’s to stake the Cardinals to a 2 or 3 run lead without the baseball ever being put into play. The catcalls coming from the small speaker on the clock radio that I was listening on were deafening and Jack Buck’s call was something along the line of, “These fans in Philadelphia certainly don’t mind voicing their displeasure”…To which Shannon replied, “Heh, heh, heh, they sure don’t, Jack”…Haha!
That’s too bad, Rat, as Ohtani has pretty much been an automatic out lately. I used to cringe and tremble a bit when Ohtani stepped up to the plate vs our Cardinals. He must have something ailing him as Ohtani has pretty much been immune to your garden variety slump that 99.999% of MLers experience on occasion.
