    I’ve got a couple guys in my hospital case bucket I don’t know what to do with. Brandon ‘loose bodies’ Clarke, and Yairo ‘3 years in system and never stayed on the field for even 40 games in any of them’ Padilla. Anybody have any thoughts about them?

    Both are right in the next ten picks. The amazing aspect to this is the sheer depth of top prospects. We have a former number one pick who could burst onto the MLB roster next spring and provide gold glove-type defense while hitting for power with one ateration to his approach at the plate and Chase Davis won’t sniff the top 30.

    Anyone who watched Ragsdale at Springfield didn’t see the optimal version. He really struggled at the end. He wasn’t a top ten hitter in the line up much less a top ten player in the system. Honestly he hit ninth, and there were arguments to be made that the bench still had better options.

    @Blingboy. Padilla is pretty straight forward. Top 10 Cards prospect entering 2025. Injuries and questionable plate decisions with the bat derailed his Top Prospect journey in 2025. The plate problems seemed to be corrected once he finally appeared mid 2026, but he kept aggravating his Shoulder INjury from Spring Training , eventually taking him out of the field of play, and relegated to DH. If he can keep his body in good enough condition next season, he might make it back into the Top 10 and threaten MLB Top 100 lists.

    Clarke is walking talking medical issue. Incredible Power Sinker at 98-103mph, with a 94-95mph Four Seamer, and an incredible Power Slider. Really good 3 pitch combo…at the three pitches he can command the best. He’s a big risk, big reward…and when you see him pitch, you hold your breath, because the motion of the pitch makes you wonder if that pitch was his last. The Snap of the motion sickening. Arms aren’t meant to do that…but if he can do it for 3 straight seasons without issue, then we’ll have our reward. I don’t see him lasting longer than 3 good years in the majors.

    There’s good and bad with both players.

    @NigelT

    the last few weeks, Ragsdale was good for 2-3 K’s per game out of the 9spot of the lineup. It wasn’t encouraging.

    If Ragsdale lands ahead of Frias in this prospect voting… that would be a travesty

    Curiously, I really like that he could maybe pitch LH in relief or something, if he were to get injured while pitching RH.

    t8ball, thanks for the input on Padilla.

    I had taken him out of my list pending more info because a teen shortstop with a bum shoulder is not worth anything. My hunch is that he needs a surgical fix. I say that because it has been ongoing and rest hasn’t improved the situation. I think with him, people look at a batting line and that’s it. For me, I am thinking I will pass on him this year. Maybe the situation will resolve one way of the other next year.

    Before he got injured a second time, Deniel Ortiz seemed to be figuring things out. He really looked on par with Baez and even Rainiel for a couple weeks at the end of the season. He was driving the ball to all fields and looking like the guy we were considering in this area last year. Like Chase Davis, he might not break top 30 this year.

    Just for what its worth, here is an assessment of Dos Santos’s defense from a Fangraphs article last September. That would be after his age 18 season, so take with as much a grain of salt as any other assessment of a teen.

    ” He’s split time between second base and shortstop and hasn’t been super sure handed at either, and early reports of a fringy throwing arm make the former spot feel more likely long-term. ”

    (Edit: The photo of Wetherholt has nothing to do with what I am commenting about. Its the link to the article I pulled the quote from.)
