Ah that 2nd error was Montero. Still amazing how much we won that Arenado trade and they are still paying part of his contract. Even with Arenado’s decline, we easily got our value out of that deal.
Gorman has looked much better with his range and most of his DP turns, but he makes a good amount of throwing errors.
Edit: I just have recency bias as his stats show that is his 2nd throwing error versus 7 fielding this year.
JJ, I’m not sure he is a great DH either. He is a league average hitter. I think Herrera is suited well for getting a start or 2 a week as a backup catcher. Nothing wrong with that as a viable backup catcher is a needed for a full season.
I think bringing in top FAs is harder than most fans expect. As someone not from Saint Louis, it isn’t a city I would be exited to move to. And I imagine this is even more true for young men who want to live somewhere exciting. Teams on the coast are always going to have an advantage in signing FAs. There are certain players who do want to sign with Stl for the legacy, but we are out of it for some players unless we really overpay compared to other teams. I for sure would be giving Soto an offer, but I just don’t see him signing it. Same thing with all the Japanese stars that come over.
Herrera is a good backup at least with the stick, but he really gets exploited as an everyday catcher. I’ll be happy when Contreras is back.
Even though the City Connect jerseys are okay, they can’t compete with the classic home jerseys we have in today. I think this is one of the best uniforms in all of sports
1TB Hey at least Gibson has the last name for the job. Gibson has been good for 6 quite often. I imagine they will try whatever they can to get him there tonight with the heavy BP use yesterday.

I’ll just say I trust professionals whom their whole career is built off analyzing prospects more than you, other posters on this site, or even my own evaluations. Will the professionals be wrong sometimes? Absolutely as baseball is very hard to predict, but they are going to be right much more often than even knowledgeable fans. They also are paid to analyze all systems and aren’t going to have as much bias as fans of a specific team.
Shady, I think you are penciling in the new shiny young guys like they are guaranteed to be quality MLB starters. That isn’t how prospects work as most bust. Prieto and Fermin aren’t even highly rated prospects either. Most outlets see Prieto as a decent bench player who can hit a little, but doesn’t walk, can’t field well, and doesn’t hit for power. Fermin is likly just a poor bench or depth type. Saggesse is more highly rated, but his upside looks to be a Donovan type, but that is still only a chance.
You also have to consider the AAA environment is a hitters paradise and many guys stats are elevated by the league. Public orgs and teams themselves have minors translation to MLB expected stats. The crazy thing is for AAA pitchers, they expect that the AAA stats are about what you would see in MLB just due to the hitters environment. Hitters see a massive drop in OPS for MLB translations. It varies player to player as well based off the skillsets. I wouldn’t know much more about the exact OPS drop as Dan Zymborski (ZIPs guy) mentioned this in one of his chats and I am regurgitating what I recall from that chat.
I’m not a fan of the 3rd WC. Almost half the league makes the playoffs and the playoffs become more of a dice roll. I don’t see them going back to 2 or even down to 1 WC though since playoff games make more money
1TD, Doyle has a really good arm. He is a great defender aall around and was very deserving of his Gold Glove last year. I said it yesterday, but he has really impressed me.
This ump has at least been consistent, but wow he really has a wide zone and those outside pitches are unhittable
Well that is nice to see Carlson with a hit and RBI. I hope he can find something to give him some momentum and pick it up.
Ha 1TD you could also lose a job like Marcano. A few guys got 1 year bans for betting less than $1000 as well. What a stupid move as some of them cost themselves a million bucks for the next year
JJ, I think I would feel comfortable with handing the reigns over to Romero if we did trade Helsey for a cost controlled hitter. He isn’t as good, and now you need a setup man, but Fernandez, Leahy, and Robertson may have the stuff to be good late inning BP arms one day. I also think Roby is destined for the BP with his injury history and command problems, but his stuff out of the pen should be devastating for a late inning BP piece in the next couple of years.
Ah yeah I forgot about Goldy having a no trade. I could see him waving it though to go to a team he likes, but that does make the odds of him being traded lower as less potential destinations for him.
I put Donovan in the core list, and I really like him as a player especially if he can get the walk rate back up. Looking at the roster construction though, he is a lesser version of Noot, but can play the IF. Donovan would actually have good value with team control left and being a quality starter. I wouldn’t be excited about trading him, but I would consider it if the deal made sense.
