Back after a whirlwind 10 day fishing trip in Vilas county(northern Wisconsin), where I rubbed elbows with white-tailed deer, black bears and some of the local drinking regulars down at the rustic quaint little tavern. Unfortunately I did not get as close to what I went up there to get……the ever elusive muskie. I must have spent a total of 50 hours lobbing lures…..to no avail. I even saw this giant muskie horsing around in the shallows, where I must have whipped a few dozen tasty lures right at him. On one cast, judging by the sound, I think I nailed him right on the noggin…….and yet still he ignored my tempting offerings. Anyway, I didn’t catch jack on the entire trip, but it was still fun. On to baseball……..Tonight’s game is one where you bet the ranch and all of it’s animal inhabitants on the Cardinals. Empty anything you can get your hands on……piggy banks, checking accounts, savings accounts, retirement accounts, heck, take out a huge short term loan……and plop it all down on the St. Louis Cardinals winning tonight’s game. Let’s call it 11-4 Good Guys shall we? What’s for din-din tonight one may ask? Well, it was going to be fresh fish, but since none grabbed my bait, I’ll have to settle for one of Rat’s Swanson hungry man tv din-dins and 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies for dessert.

    Pugs,
Sorry you missed out on Edmund up there in northern Wisconsin. You’ll get them next time.

And like you, this is not a CCFF – Cardinal Catfish Fiddler Friday. Today I am having boiled chicken legs in noodles, some mashed taters, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and some homemade French Vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Later tonight I’ll have what’s left of the chili soup that I made on Wednesday whilst I watch the rest of the Cardinals 11-4 throttling of the Rockies and then tune in to a last west coast game. I’ll start out with the Cubs and Reds from Crosley Field, then switch over. Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for tonight’s battles, along with 2-3 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.

Burly batting #2 against the lefty starter tonight. I’m beginning the think Oli likes Burleson’s hitting ability even more than me. lol I’d still like to see more power from Burly. I think the potential is there. I believe Edmonds said in a recent telecast, something to the effect, that Burly could be a 30 home run guy playing as a regular.

It was a mudrunner late lunch/early dinner for Mrs. 1TD and myself at King Edwards Restaurant this afternoon. Two Catfish fillet baskets with hush puppies, french fried taters and cole slaw. I have the waitress bring mine with both tarter and cocktail sauce and I always sprinkle a little Tobasco on those deep fried, cornmeal coated, chucklehead fillets…All washed down with iced tea garnished with plenty of lemon.

Don’t know what else we could do for the lineup. Fermin for Carp and Carlson for Siani puts righty bats in, but they have to hit lefties, not just be in.

Well, the bench is loaded with threats from the left side.

No one complains about Fermin DH and Gorman at 2nd?

I don’t have the audacity to complain about a DH who weighs in at a .136 clip.

I’m guessing that the dazzling glare from those two large sparkly chains may be partially to blame for Winn’s recent fielding woes. I’d like to see him try a few games with those things placed in his locker just to see if his mitt improves.

Well, they don’t seem to have an adverse effect on his hitting…Leadoff double.

And a solid base hit to CF from Burleson. I know there’s no one out, but doesn’t anyone score from 2B anymore?

IF RBI base hit from Goldschmidt…1-0. Keep the line moving, boys.

Sac-fly RBI from Arenado makes it 2-0 and the 2 out RBI base hit from Gorman extends the 1st inning lead to 3.

    Edit…Whoops, only 1 out.

Sounds like a great trip, Pugs. Enjoy it as once the lovely young lady hooks you, you won’t be attempting to hook any fish.

Great day here – got the paddle board out for the first time this Spring/Summer and got out on the water for some recreation. I tell you though, it is also a good upper body workout.

Din-din? The lovely Lady Bike picked up a pound of ground bison and made sloppy joes with it, along with mashed potatoes and a tossed salad. Being Friday I am washing it down with a cold Blood Orange Amber beer from a local brewery.

And I am doing this old school – got the KMOX broadcast on my tablet out on the patio listening to the action. Man, takes me back to my youthful days when my dad would dial up Harry and Jack on the back patio and my parents and I would sit out and listen to the game. Some nights it would fade in and out, and other nights come in crystal clear up in our Wyoming hamlet.

The offense is actually showing up tonight. Even though Winn typically got 60 grades on his hit tool, I have really been impressed with his bat control and think it is an elite level tool
