Kluber deal to Rangers is agreed to, pending physicals

A fairly underwhelming return…the Rangers’ #30 prospect and Delino Deshields, who has never really broken out at the big league level and is arbitration eligible. The Rangers are going for it.

29 of 30 teams have added at least one player to their 40 man rosters that wasn’t in their organization in 2019. That one team that hasn’t made an addition is the Cardinals.
Based on immediate social media reaction, fans of the other 28 teams believe their club could have offered more for Kluber. It suggests to me that Cleveland has doubts about his health/effectiveness.
We have no way to know if other teams were willing. I was sharing my assessment of fan reaction.
Man, it must hurt to be a Cleveland fan. First Bauer and now Kluber. Heyman at least speculates they may hold onto Lindor since they saved all of Kluber’s salary.

Sounds like the Indians got a pretty good reliever in Emmanuel Clase. Would they now be more open to discussions about trading Brad Hand? Hand had what was called a ‘tired elbow’ for a short time last season, so there would be significant risk in acquiring him since elbow injuries usually don’t just go away and stay away. It helps that he only has one year of guaranteed money left on his current contract. Still, it would suck big time if the Cardinals acquired yet another reliever who turned out to be of no help to the team.

If the Cards would sign Keuchel or Ryu, which I doubt, who is most vulnerable on the 40 man roster? Urias? Trade?
I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go after both a starter and a reliever. Remember there is no closer, either. I think they will look for a Bud Norris type to help out.
The #STLCards feel they’re covered on starting pitching now. They’ll stay in touch on other free agents in case something falls in their lap, basically. Next focus is retaining Marcell Ozuna or finding a lefty bat.
