I’m curious what people see in Bedell to have voted him so highly? He hasn’t really pitched, which makes me leery after the Steven Gingery saga.

I was just looking at the updated list and am sort of surprised Victor Scott II hasn’t gotten more attention yet.

He only had a partial season as a 2022 draftee. In 142 PA’s in A ball, he posted a 115 wRC+ (Fangraphs) which is confirmed in a sense by the 116 DRC+ (Baseball Prospectus). Supposedly his speed is top-notch (13 SB, 3 CS), which means he could be a potentially plus fielder too. His plate discipline also stands out with a ridiculous 16.9% BB% and solid 18.3% K%.

He has some similarities to Mike Antico, but is much younger and probably has a higher ceiling. He should be fun to see more of next year.

I’m curious what people see in Bedell to have voted him so highly?

4 at least average pitches with good command. I see him as high risk due to not being able to stay on the mound, but he could be a back end starter with 4 solid pitches. If he can manage to stay healthy he would be fast tracked if he can actually get batters out.

I see Jack Ralston kind of the same, and I see he got a vote at this level. He is intriguing but high risk due to durability. He has the kind of live arm you normally see in a slinger like Carlos Martinez rather than from an over the top power delivery. Has a Waino like 12-6 curve that is his most talked about pitch. But he has to stay on the mound which so far he hasn’t.

Others we should consider:

Rancel Rincon – He had lots of success in the Domican as a starter in 2021, then had several great outings this year in the Complex League and then made a few starts at Palm Beach. Last year I was disappointed to not see Paniagua in the top 50 of TCN list and challenged that one as the only miss. This year, while I don’t feel quite as strongly as I did about Paniagua, Rincon is that miss. I really like the way this guy goes about everything and how quickly he adapts. He’s definitely my favorite unrated prospect.

Osvaldo Tovalin – since we somehow voted in Buchberger, Tovalin is extremely similar in a lot of ways but significantly younger. He’s a really good hitter and semi versatile. And, like Buchberger, he has a penchant for coming up with key RBIs.

Chandler Redmond – Serious power. 4 homers in a game. And he can take a walk. He used to play all over. Now he’s pretty much 1B only. But he does it well.

Scott Hurst – The problem with Hurst has always been that he couldn’t hit – not for average or power. Except that in 2022, he suddenly had an OpS over .800 for much of the season. Plus he’s an excellent defender in the outfield. I actually thought there was an outside chance he could get taken in the Rule 5 draft. He’s suddenly a little interesting again and I’m intrigued.

Chris Rotondo – Drafted as an OF in the later rounds this year, he went out and had a very productive year. I actually really like him (for a late round pick).

Chase Pinder – Always hurt. But when he’s not, he’s an excellent hitter. Plus, he plays all 3 outfield positions well.

Samil de la Rosa – Our best hitter at Palm Beach. And he played all over the infield. Lots of errors, but very young.

Luken Baker – He is like the hulk. Which is really fun when he connects with the baseball. And not so fun when he strikes out or runs the bases.

Andrew Marrero – Did really well now that he’s no longer a starter. Very good reliever results. I’m not really a believer long-term, but the results were great this year.

I’m also a fan of Yordelin Peña and Alfredo Ruiz, but the results aren’t there enough to put them in the top 50 yet. But look for them next year.

In addition to the names already mentioned above, I would add Anyelo Encarnacion, SS (TCN 2023 #43) and R.J.Yeager – SS/2B to the list as ones to consider. Yeager was undrafted in 2022, but produced well with PB in 97 AB with .803 OPS. On the pitching side, Andrew Marrero (TCN 2023 #44) should be considered in the top 50 with 11 saves and 55 strikeouts in just over 35 IP.

There is a new guy I know little about except he was signed to a major league contract and is on the 40 man roster, so we will see him in big league ST camp. Has 3 option years remaining.

Guillermo Zuniga, RHRP, 24, 2022 A+ and AA with LAD. AA line: 35.1 IP, 3.06, WHIP 1.075, 12.5 K/9, 3.3 BB/9

He was a minor league FA and I don’t think ever highly touted. Does anyone know anything or have any thoughts?

Also there is Wilking Rodriguez. I don’t know that a 32 year old con be considered a prospect. All star closer in Mexican League last year. Signed a AAA contract with the Yankees, but due to prior MiLB tenure was Rule 5 eligible and we took him. 2022: 14.7 K/9, 2.6 BB/9 in Mexican League. Not sure about his prospects for making the roster or sticking, or if Mo will work a deal to acquire full rights.
