I’m confused. I don’t think Parsons or Buchberger rank in the top 70 Cards prospects,

Parsons was TCN #32 prospect on the 2021 list. Since then he had a rough first year in AAA and an improved second year. He could go either way this year, same as a lot of guys. I like the 12-2 record he just put up. And the fact that he answers the bell when his name is called, unlike many of the guys with fancier stuff.

The other key thing, besides showing up, is keeping them off the base path. Parsons just posted a 1.172 WHIP in AAA. For comparison, in his two seasons in AAA Liberatore posted 1.251 and 1.383. In AA McGreevy posted 1.364 and Graceffo 1.068. So Parsons is right there.

Bling…. if your not back by Mon. AM I’ll tally up. I do it anyway. As of now there’s only a couple of the faithfuls left to vote, but others return and some just join in. The more the merrier.

Welcome back 25, Pads and Desm.

Blingboy, I understand why people like Parsons. He’s got a great back story. He is durable. And he is flexible in that he jumps back and forth from bullpen to starter whenever needed. But the downside is that he’s now 27 and going to be 28 by end of next season. He strikes out less than 1 per inning and he walks half as many as he strikes out. Plus, he’s just so inconsistent and doesn’t really have any plus pitches. Also, we have around 23 pitchers now on the 40 man roster and only 13 can fit in St Louis. So Parsons is behind at least 10 guys from getting called up plus probably several others who are coming up behind him or Whitley who lost his spot. So that’s why I just think he has no chance to make it to St Louis. And, I’m sure we won’t see him in Brian and Blake’s top 50 as well. Therefore, I don’t think he has any discernible value to the Cardinals right now and since this is a Cardinals prospect list, to me I have him somewhere between 68-75. I get that this is just my opinion. I’m just expressing that I don’t think he’s anywhere close to being top 35.

Sandy Alcantara the NL Cy Young winner allowed 6.8 hits per 9 innings pitched in 2022 and so did Tom Parsons, albeit in AAA. If a guy allows 6.8 hits per 9 innings over 135 innings and has no plus pitches, then there is an issue with defining what is a plus pitch. If the definition is a pitch that batters can’t hit, then he clearly does have plus pitches.

Ok. I hear you. But part of that is that he walks a lot of guys too and gets some extra outs on the base paths. But point taken. I’m rooting for Tommy. I like him too. But I still believe he’s behind a boatload of guys to ever make it to The Show.

My vote for Parsons is a protest against the Analytics Derangement Syndrome that grips the baseball world in its wonky embrace.

Thanks for doing the deed LA, I got back late.

So far in, the Community’s prospect rankings 1 to 32, we have picked 20 pitchers, 3 catchers, 2 shortstops and 7 outfielders. In the TCN’s prospect ranking countdown 50 to 32 there are an additional 6 pitchers, 1 catcher, 2 first basemen, 2 second basemen, 2 shortstops and 2 outfielders that the community hasn’t selected yet. Between the two rankings of the 48 different players selected there are:

    27 P.
    4 C.
    2 1st
    3 2nd
    3 SS
    0 3rd
    9 OF
Looks like we may be lacking some infield prospects.

I’m surprised to see Jeremy Rivas and Luis Pino get such little attention. Weren’t they the big int’l signees for the 2020 and 2021 classes?

What is the criteria for voting? Is this list performance based, potential (projection) based, age based, analytically results based, or just opinion based. Or, I guess it could be a combination of all of these. I have seen many of these upper level guys play. Interesting to read and learn about the young prospects in the organization who I have not seen play.

Same group. Heredia has the best potential left with power stuff from the left side

It’s whatever you want it to be. Some combination of all of the above.
