39. Baker – he was our 17th ranked prospect last year after a solid outing at AA in 2021 but had a bad year this past season at AAA. I think he’s got one more year on the list to try to make it and it makes sense for him to fall to around this spot. He still has nice power which always makes for an intriguing prospect.
One thing to note is that in 2022 he switched to being an all fields hitter (40% pull, 25% middle, 35% opposite) after being more of a pull hitter (44% pull, 30% middle, 26% opposite) when he had an OPS of .859 and wRC+ of 121. He’s one that might benefit from the shift going away and could have a lot of success going back to pulling the ball with his power.
40. Pinder
41. Torres – he was pretty exciting but didn’t quite do it last year
December 16, 2022 at 11:35 am #209320Desmet, The Cardinals released Jhon Torres Sep 20. He was only 22 and I couldn’t believe it when they gave up on him.
December 16, 2022 at 11:36 am #209321Desmetlax12 – Torres is gone.

Good read on new pitchers we picked up.
Baseball prospectus has its list of cardinal prospects.
Baseball America has been a long time resource for cardinal prospects back to the days when you just hoped the post dispatch would include minor league stats.
It is truly awesome. The information that is available and this website as a resource is really awesome. I remember the days as a kid trying to find anything and everything I could about Cardinals farmhandsI guess the question I have for everyone and considering your pics. Do you consider raw ability or tools more important than under average tools that just moved to the next level?

ParticipantI’m still sticking with
Heredia – good read as he is the 27th prospect on the Cardinals website. He has a mid 90s heater and a slider. Makes you wonder at his age if he may have more in the tank. Hopefully he learns to hit one with his pitches…..
Zuniga – triple digit to upper 90s heat and a nasty slider. He will get a long look
If he qualifies….
Wilking Rodriguez jumps WAY WAY up my ranking with a triple digit upper 90s sinking heater and a variety of weapons that should play at the next level. The Molina endorsement is a big one.I’m intrigued by a couple of the internationals.
Herrera had 14.6 k/9 at 17?
Suarez had a good season at 17 as well with lots of extra base hits.December 17, 2022 at 4:10 pm #209385Right now I have Scott ahead with Heredia and Baker tied for the other two spots, and Ralston a point behind them and Rivas a point behind him. I will hold off a couple hours in case anyone else votes or anyone wants to change their vote.

43. Sawyer
44. RedmondI would vote for Wilking Rodriguez, but it just feels wrong since he doesn’t really fit as a prospect except by technicality.
Rancel Rincon and Samil de la Rosa should both make our list. And, I think Nelfy Ynfante should too. These are all very young guys who have had some good seasons now. I also think Grant, Rotondo, and Marrero should get serious consideration from us. And then there’s still Pinder and Hurst that are probably not more than AAAA guys at this point, but at least they are almost sure things to get at least a handful of MLB at bats at some point. Also, Zuniga who we just gave a roster spot to. And finally, Gustavo Rodriguez had a good season and is also doing spectacular in the winter leagues so I guess I could see him as a fringe top 50 guy as well. I would probably put Heredia a little behind him so probably in the 55-60 range. And I’m just not a fan of Rivas because he can’t really hit. But I can see an argument for him around 50ish too. And I didn’t mention Anyelo Encarnacion who really had a great year with the bat. But he’s so young. I think that’s about everyone – at least everyone outside of some of our other newly drafted pitchers that’s we just haven’t seen enough of yet.
December 17, 2022 at 7:14 pm #209393For now I am thinking Sawyer is a NP organization guy similar to a Grant Black, but I hope I have to eat my words. Good luck to him, to both of them.
I think I will pass on Wilking Rodriguez even though I think he has a good chance of making the team, for reasons similar to Jnevel.
I am probably going with Ralston, Grant and Zuniga here, but want to think it over some.
