My fear would be that circumstances, need and wishful thinking will put Thomas in MLB before he has been able to dominate AAA opponents. In that case it would be Liberatore all over again.

cardsfan64Participant#16 – Alec Willis – RHP – still like him to advance quickly this year
#17 – Connor Thomas – LHP – I agree that Thomas has made himself relevant as a prospect and will probably make his debut this summer in the big leaguesNovember 29, 2022 at 10:10 am #207734PadsFS

WILLIS – PREDICT TO BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST JUMPERS IN THE RANKINGS THIS YEAR

17 Connor ThomasNovember 29, 2022 at 1:13 pm #20774516 Willis
17 MautzNovember 29, 2022 at 1:20 pm #207746I like Thomas’ improvement, but considering that the AFL is AA+ IMO, that tempers his results in the desert. I hope he excels in Spring Training and makes the team. Maybe he might be a dark horse 5th starter.

#17 – Connor ThomasNovember 29, 2022 at 7:02 pm #20776216 – Brycen Mautz
17 – Max RajcicNovember 29, 2022 at 8:46 pm #207765There’s bound to be a fair amount of guessing here at where Mautz, Hansen, and Rajcic end up on this list. None pitched for us this year (same with Hjerpe). So I guess it’s either we are guessing based on some scouting reports, blind guessing, or we actually saw several outings of these guys in college. I’m in the first camp, which is maybe better than the second camp, but it still feels like I’m totally guessing when trying to compare these guys to our current actual prospects. I think that’s going to cause us to have a lot of differentiation on where we put them. I guess I’m ok with wherever they land! But I’d love to hear opinions from anyone in camp 3 above.

17 ThomasNovember 30, 2022 at 12:20 am #207772I haven’t kept up with the voting, but I’m going to vote for
16 ConnorThomas
17 Alec Willis. Both of these pitchers could make big strides in 2023, IMO.
I’m basing this on the Thomas hype about his new pitch and his success in the AFL, and I’m basing my vote for Willis on the reports at the time he was drafted, and that $1M signing bonus they gave to their 7th round pick. Willis could turn out to be a sleeper, IMO.November 30, 2022 at 5:15 am #207775slidinlefty
ParticipantThomas for me is a tough sell being smallish with a below average heater and after getting shelled at AAA this past year. Not that Liberatore didn’t either….however 172 hits in 135 IP is a lot. His Arizona fall league was very impressive. He is just going to have to be pinpoint at the next level. We can always use a groundball out of the bullpen though.
November 30, 2022 at 7:41 am #207787#16 Mautz
#17 Thomas – The organization sees something in him with the addition to the 40 man and giving him the AZFL opportunity (in which he excelled). They won’t waste a 40 man spot on someone they don’t think has the ability to contribute in the very near future, that’s top 20 prospect material right there.November 30, 2022 at 7:42 am #20778816. Thomas
17. Walsh
November 30, 2022 at 9:22 am #207790It is difficult to gauge the 2022 draft picks who haven’t pitched minor league ball yet. Unless you saw them pitch in college, the best way to rank them is by the round they were drafted in, and/or the above slot $$ they received.

Participant#16 – Won-Bin Cho
#17 – Ryan LoutosNovember 30, 2022 at 5:06 pm #207804Those are my kind of choices crany. I’ve got them both coming up soon.

cardsfan64ParticipantTo finish out the top 20 on our list, I vote for:
#18 – Alec Willis – RHP
#19 – Freddy Pacheco – RHP
#20 – Pete Hansen – LHPI already expressed my thoughts on Willis, and I agree with an earlier post that this could be the year we see Pacheco take a major step forward in the org. Hansen is speculation by things I have seen written on him and his draft spot.

19. Pacheco
20. Rajcic
