Pugs and Rat, you guys are forgetting 1985.
I have 6 in my living years (64, 67, 82, 85, 06, 11). Like Rat, I don’t remember 64. I was 5 y/o then.
As a side note…….I believe I have won about ten (10) World Series titles in Strat-O-Matic managing the Cardinals. I should be in the Strat Hall of Fame.

Can’t one kind of rig Strat-O-Matic games though, Rat? They may have been perfect for “Shoeless” Joe to play…..or maybe even a Pete Rose.

I think if the A’s do cut pay they blow it all the way up. I’ve always liked Manaea. From Indiana, deceptive lefty, with 92-95 mph fastball. His issue has always been health though. Bassitt since adding the cutter to his arsenal made himself into somewhat of a late bloomer, but again has never logged many innings. I’ll be honest I know little about Montas other than highlights I’ve seen, but he seems to have put a lot together in 2021 and throws hard. Bassitt and Manaea have 1 year of control and Montas has 2. I could see the Cardinals lining up as trade partners because I could see Oakland having interest in Sosa or Nootbaar if the Cardinals were to part with one of them and Oviedo, Rondon, or Woodford. The question is are any of the 3 and limited control worth giving up the years of control in Sosa, Nootbaar, Woodford. If the deal was Oviedo, Rondon, Malcom Nunez or Luken Baker then maybe I’d be inclined. Or do you hold on to the depth and sign a guy like Matz, who’s had his own issues, and projected at 3 years and $27 million.
Corey Knebel is a guy I sure wouldn’t mind seeing in the late innings, but again health has been an issue.You guys are a bunch of pups! I remember the 64 World series since I was 9 years old at that time! Lol! Don’t remember a lot, but I have always disliked the Yankees since I was a kid! Listened to KMOX for the games when we were young. Only special games like the WS were on TV, unless you were fortunate to have the game televised on the Saturday game of the week! My, how times have changed!
I agree 667, I would not part with Gorman, Nootbaar, Burleson, Yepez, with Pallante, Rondon, and Oviedo being available if we have our choice of which starter we want. Reyes and Sosa could be in the mix as well.
Brian, that’s why I included a link to both lists. I combined them on my post, so there is a mixture of trades and free agent acquisitions in there. All of them count as moves, which is why I combined them. Never mind, I see that it did not accept my edit and have both links listed.

While I don’t think it will cost us that much in a trade for Bassitt or Manaea, if the Cards traded Sosa, Nootbar and Woodford for one of them, I’d take that in a heartbeat. I know they are looking at the guys from Japan or the KBO, but a rotation of Flaherty, Gray/Stroman, Waino, Manaea, Hudson looks pretty good. I realize that doesn’t leave room for Mikolas, but I don’t think depending on Miles for anything is wise. Maybe the Rangers would take him if we paid most of his salary, or he becomes an expensive #6 starter for the inevitable injury. Then add a lefty bench bat and you’re in good shape.
Would we do something like that? Probably not, but it would make us NL Central favorites and probably as good a bet as any to win the NL, assuming the Dodgers don’t bring everyone back.

I was thinking more along the lines of Sosa, Oviedo, Rondon for Manaea. I don’t know that it would be enough, but it is only 1 year of control. Still would have Woodford, Liberatore, Newsome, Thompson, Zeuch, Thomas, Palante as starting depth and a rotation of Flaherty, Manaea, Hudson, Wainwright, Mikolas. And I agree I’d like to add another 2/3 starter, I’m not big on Stroman at all, and replace Mikolas, but eating that contract would be hard and finding a taker would be harder, especially since I believe he has a no trade clause. Maybe a team like TB he would approve going to, contender and he lives in Florida, and they could take him on as a reclamation project they have had success with and a 3rd team take on Kiermaier for salary relief for TB and the Cardinals getting out from under the money and a low level minor leaguer, but I just got really deep into a lot of speculation and hypothesizing.

I just got out of the army in the spring of ’64 and spent much of that season in heated discussions with my best friend – who was from Philly – including that dramatic final dash for the pennant, then that fantastic World series. Unfortunately I have no memory of the ’46 series.
Let me guess……were you a cook in the army, Cardinal in France? Thinking that may have been where you started to hone your marvelous culinary skills.

I believe our old friend Minuteman3, God rest his soul, was in his 80s when he started popping in here. He would have had to be alive for the Cards’ series wins in 1942, 44, and 46. But like CiF, probably would not have a memory of them.
I thought about MM3 too, but I think your timeline is correct. He probably would’ve been too young to remember the championships in the 40s. So if we’re going to require actually remembering championships, I think we’re going to need to take my approach and count 1985 to have somebody claim 6.
I’m interested in CIF’s Army career field too. The Army turned my Dad into a cook when he enlisted in the 40s. He stayed in the Army for just one term and was not a cook afterwards, but carried the passion with him until his later years. He’d cook anything and everything, especially when my brother or I would bring our buddies over. Unfortunately, the Army evidently didn’t teach him to clean up the kitchen, so my Mom didn’t always share in his passion.
Indeed gentlemen. MinuteMan3 & Sooner….both great guys. Unfortunately, COVID most likely thinned our rank & file out some. Kind of an unpleasant topic, but we’ll have a stretch here in about 20 years when many of us will be dropping like flys……except RatsBuddy, who’ll probably be the last man standing. Off the top of my head, I wonder what happened to notable posters such as PhilSkill, BrianNoonan, BobbyReed, JJ-CF, KylMSS, Mags aka MagnoliaCardinal, VegasJim….and many more.
That’s where Euro picked up his marvelous din-din delights from…..dear ol’dad. I bet father Euro would have loved our Game thread din-din feature.
