Oh happy day! I live for new matrix days.
March 26, 2021 at 8:47 am #156324Double A pitcher Anthony “Big” Shew has retired.
March 26, 2021 at 11:06 am #156345Thanks for the heads up, flood21.
March 30, 2021 at 7:26 pm #156608Alternate Site Roster announced earlier today:
Here are the dudes joining Lars Nootbaar at the Cardinals' alternate training site in Sauget, led by the Triple-A Memphis coaching staff. Matthew Liberatore, Zack Thompson among the group: pic.twitter.com/ss3GTNvvI6

April 1, 2021 at 9:43 am #156724263 #stlcards players by level and position with all transactions on one page. Taxi squad, alternate camp, minors camp broken out. The Roster Matrix at The Cardinal Nation is updated and always free. https://t.co/D4rbbcR4t7 pic.twitter.com/McNvxGuwkG

April 1, 2021 at 10:55 am #156731I suppose the State College and Johnson City rosters will go away at some point in the next 30 days.
April 1, 2021 at 7:10 pm #156825Assuming all the SC and JC players are invited to minor league spring training camp, I will probably sunset the old team rosters here at that time.

April 16, 2021 at 4:17 pm #158266For a quick refresher on which #stlcards are on the 40-man and 26-man active rosters, on the ILs, taxi squads and at the alternate site, check out the Roster Matrix at The Cardinal Nation. April 16, 2021 at 5:56 pm #158292I didn’t see reported anywhere but Eric Lex has retired.
April 16, 2021 at 6:26 pm #158303His camp absence was covered for members here:
The #stlcards have begun their minor league spring training camp in Jupiter, Florida. 112 players are on hand. I highlight missing players as well as a group of international newcomers. ($) https://t.co/kx6qIt2Q6t pic.twitter.com/8c9Eq1VOYh

April 20, 2021 at 6:31 pm #158690Regarding Steven Gingery’s retirement, that was a really poor gamble by the Cardinals. Nice payday for Gingery, though, after pitching only 0.2 innings.
April 21, 2021 at 8:22 am #158779Low A pitcher Rodard Avelino was released. He wasn’t mentioned in the above article.
May 3, 2021 at 8:30 am #159974Looks like Bryce Denton has been released! 2nd round pick in 2015. I wonder how many others will be cut this year with the subtraction of several teams?
June 18, 2021 at 10:12 am #164267The Roster Matrix currently (06/18) shows IF Darlyn Del Villar in both Palm Beach and the Complex. The narrative has him in Palm Beach. The Complex total shows 34 but I believe it should be 37 (38 names are listed, including Del Villar).
June 18, 2021 at 10:25 am #164269Thanks for the heads up. The mess has been corrected.
June 18, 2021 at 10:48 am #164274Glad to help. Thanks for maintaining this outstanding resource.
-JoeJune 18, 2021 at 12:35 pm #164280Matrix question. How long does Kramer Robertson have to be used exclusively at 2B before he gets moved there on the matrix?
(I have no idea if he is still considered a legit SS prospect just pushed off the position by Mendoza, or if he has actually morphed into a right side prospect. I do note that he has covered both SS and 3rd for a few innings.)
June 18, 2021 at 2:18 pm #164284Robertson is still shown as a shortstop. While his use in the first six weeks of the season has been at second base, he was primarily a SS until 2021. I am in no hurry to start moving people around based on shorter-term usage. I suppose I could label him a utility player and leave it at that.
June 18, 2021 at 4:09 pm #164288Did I miss that Pimentel was released? I noticed that he is gone from DSL Blue but can’t find any info on him anywhere else. Was he part of the shuffle that occurred a few days ago?
June 18, 2021 at 4:14 pm #164289Pimentel was on the last line and accidentally deleted. He is back now. Thanks for bringing it up.
July 5, 2021 at 11:01 am #165673Brian,
Today (07/05) Memphis is showing 31+4, but I believe that roster is 32+3 with only Austin Dean, Alex FaGalde, and Johan Quezada on the IL.
Unrelated follow-up question: when does the DSL start? I’m seeing conflicting reports.
Thanks as always,
JoeJuly 5, 2021 at 2:06 pm #165685Nogowski is still listed on Cardinals and Memphis squads. This could be the cause of the number discrepancy. Holiday weekend so I assume things just haven’t caught up yet!
I am also interested in the DSL. Saw a report that at least one team is not fielding a DSL team this year. Is the season in jeopardy this year due to COVID-19?
July 5, 2021 at 5:50 pm #165701Nogowski has beeb removed and the numbers cleaned up. Thanks for the heads up.
The DSL opener remains July 12. The Cardinals will be getting back to me when the schedule is ready to be released.
Our preview is here.
July 5, 2021 at 8:56 pm #165736The FCL Transaction page shows RHP Reinys Portillo going to Palm Beach from FCL, but the Matrix has that switched.
Please do keep us updated on anything you hear about DSL news! They have a bunch of players to evaluate and train!
Thanks for all you do, Brian!
