Good lord, had buddies over for the NFL games today, two Cards fans and it made me appreciate the intelligence of this group! Then I check this and see….. some ridiculousness!

Just so that I’m understanding this…. Liberatore and Hudson to COL and taking on the whole financial portion of the deal, with an opt out AND not sending out Carp?

Pretty sure that the conversation went something like this:

Mo/Girsch: “We’d like to see what it would take to get Arenado”

Colorado: “Liberatore, Hudson, Carlos Martinez and Tyler O’Neill”

Mo/Girsch: “Been great talkin’ to ya”

I tend to agree with most of what this author wrote:
Where the rumors are coming from

    1. The Cardinals don’t discuss trades in public
    2. If there is any basis to these supposed discussions, the leak came from the Rockies end
    3. The Cardinals would have to trade both Fowler and Carpenter to accomodate Arenado’s salary (though I believe DeWitt said he would be willing to increase payroll if the right trade came along)

Jeff Passan indicated on January 7th that the Rockies were targeting the Cubs and the Cardinals in an Arenado trade because they want MLB talent back. This was before the Liberatore trade.

    Passan Jan 7

As the Colorado Rockies search for potential trade partners, two teams in particular have intrigued them, according to sources: the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals are an interesting possibility for Arenado, too. They have the major league talent the Rockies would want in return.

I guess where I am at right now, is I can see the Cardinals trading Hudson + O’Neill for Arenado if they can find takers for Carpenter + Fowler.

This would presume they would resign Ozuna and DeWitt would be willing to live with a $25 million payroll increase.

Lol it is going to take a heck of alot more than a 4th started in Hudson and a strike out King in O’neil for one of the top 10 players in baseball….jebus it is amazing how many Cardinal fans think we can trade off lower tier guys for studs…just amazing

Then you don’t make the trade.

The same radio talker in Chicago, Bruce Levine, also says the Cubs are considering acquiring Arenado and moving Bryant to center field!

I read the NBCsports piece, so the next rumor should be Arenado to CHI – Bryant to STL. 🙂

How can a team that is trying to cut payroll do that?

GameCard, the Cubs would love to cut payroll, but want to be competitive also. The “trading Bryant” situation is 0% about the payroll, it’s to cut ties and get what they can out of Bryant. The Cubs – Bryant relationship is beyond repairable and worse than what has been released in the media.

The article said that they moving him to CF not trade him.

Bryant in CF? That sort of sounds “Jose Martinez-like” to me.

Mo says the trade rumors are 90-95% untrue. Of course, he cannot speak for the Cubs rumors or that would likely up the percentage! 😉

Well what would you expect Mo to say? They like keeping everyone in the dark.

It is hard to say. Most baseball executives are intentionally vague. They see no need to telegraph their moves because that could diminish any leverage they have and could drive up expectations unnecessarily. In other words, there isn’t much of a reason to be overly transparent.

The only thing that Mo said that caused an eye roll from me was when he said something to the effect of they often admit their mistakes.

    OK, sure….

Regarding playing Bryant in CF, why would they not play Heyward in CF with Bryant in RF? That sounds so unintelligent based on that alone!

No to Arenado, no to Ozuna, and yes to Wood and Castellanos, and another yes to CMart for prospects and a closer.

Heyward is included in the rumored trade package going to Colo for Arenado.

With Colorado holding all the cards, no pun intended, there is no reason for them to take bad contracts such as Heyward, Fowler, or Carpenter without multiple major league ready, and top minor league plyers included. The price is way too high.

I don’t think I want this to happen especially if Liberatore is involved. I would prefer them to find a way to trade Fowler.

Rumor has Liberatore, Hudson, C. Martinez and O’Neill for Arenado. I really don’t like this.

well I don’t think Colorado would take this trade cause none of those guys are that great. but if they are willing, the cardinals should do that in a heartbeat. would instantly give a legitimate chance for them to win it all this coming season. plus it would show me that ownership is actually trying to win, rather than sit on all their money and hope they win.

Too much to give up…Colorado will jump at it.
