ParticipantIf the Astros were one of the 5 teams originally approved by Arenado for a trade, it sure paints a totally different picture.
February 21, 2025 at 2:46 pm #276890Then Mo either didn’t wait for Arenado’s answer before he “leaked”, or announced a failed trade proposal afterwards, to set up a villain for his failures.
Anything in your link we could call new news GS? ( because I can’t read it)
The way I read the story I don’t think Mo did anything wrong in this instance. He negotiated a trade with an approved team and Arenado changed his mind.
As for learning anything new the article did say that Mo and Arenado did not speak for several weeks after the Houston incident. I think there were some bruised feelings. It also said that he came very close to being traded to Boston because it appeared that Bregman was going to Detroit but things changed at the last minute after Boston upped their offer.

ParticipantMaybe NA truly is the bad guy in this sad scenario.
February 21, 2025 at 2:57 pm #276893StLouis may not be a real pleasant place to play if he continues his decline.

ParticipantSure hope NA’s production improves to the point that the good prospects Mo might have negotiated to get from Houston are secondary.
February 21, 2025 at 3:25 pm #276896Hope you are right Cranny. But guy’s went back to continuing their declines after MLB rid itself of the supervitamins.
February 21, 2025 at 3:44 pm #276897Yeah, but the decline as a result of the absense of supervitamins is offset by the emergence of the wide assortment of energy drinks and the improvement in launch angles and spin rates. Everything’s relative to time and space.
February 21, 2025 at 3:52 pm #276898How could I forget about the spin rates and launch angles?
February 21, 2025 at 4:04 pm #276899Houston was on his list, but after two key guys left, it may have spooked him. He repeatedly asked for more time to make his decision, which should have been a formality since it was one of his favored teams. It is a shame it was made public, but the bottom line for me is that if Arenado really wanted to be an Astro, he would be.

ParticipantThen it’s NA, all about NA, Brian?
February 21, 2025 at 4:19 pm #276903It’s not at all difficult for those two concepts to slip one’s mind, KCB. My memory isn’t as sharp as it once was, but I do my best not to worry about the little things. If I ever forget to wear pants to the grocery store, I’ll worry…
February 21, 2025 at 4:19 pm #276904He repeatedly asked for more time to make his decision, which should have been a formality since it was one of his favored teams.
The Cardinals could grant him more time but Houston couldn’t. They needed to know soon so they could pivot to other players if need be, which they did.

Any guessing on what that is?
February 21, 2025 at 4:43 pm #276907Nado’s postseason batting line.
February 21, 2025 at 5:01 pm #276910Correctomundo G. So a highly paid, pull happy, declining player with a miserable post season history. Maybe that’s why only 2 teams seriously kicked the tires. And they both have short left field porches.

jj-cf-stlParticipantListing a handful of possible trade destinations, as requested, is not blindly agreeing to a trade. There is no proof of a “reverse” at this time.
I heard Nado requested a trade.
Run with it.February 21, 2025 at 5:40 pm #276912JJ-Your words hold as much truth as any of the other reporting. Unless it comes right out of the players mouth, theres a real credibility issue. That includes the gm’s. Your speculation or my speculation is as good as anyone elses. Oh, and Bob. I trust Bob.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThe expensive vets are not slashing the budget, or have they caused the farm to under perform. Those are the ownership issues I’m watching closely. I’m familiar with Mo failing.
February 21, 2025 at 6:11 pm #276917I think we may be making this too complicated.
If Arenado didn’t want to be traded, he would not have provided a list at all. He would have simply said “no thanks” as did Gray and Contreras.
Since he provided a list of teams, it is completely reasonable to assume he would accept a trade to one of those teams.
What seemed to have changed was the Astros trading Tucker.
Katie Woo’s article covered this subject very well and I trust her reporting.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI was glad to see enough water had passed under the bridge, that STL & HOU could discuss trading.
February 21, 2025 at 6:19 pm #276919Nobody looks at post season results when making player personnel decisions, especially a guy with only 35 plate appearances. If that weighs in at all in a decision, then you need to get a new job. Here is one – think anyone would say “no thanks” to this guy because he is not very good in October?
.205/.318/.450 – 86 Ks in 220 ABs (36 BBs)
February 21, 2025 at 6:31 pm #276920
jj-cf-stlParticipantOhtani had 76 postseason PA’s during 2024. Nolan gets with the right club he could re-write his post season numbers.

ParticipantTucker or not, I wonder if NA feels “anything” about his employer jumping through many hoops to get a deal agreed to, and then he backs out. Sounds like Mo wasn’t too pleased.
February 21, 2025 at 8:50 pm #276924Katie Woo’s article covered this subject very well and I trust her reporting.
Agreed. She’s reputable.
February 21, 2025 at 8:52 pm #276925Disagree BikeMike. Post season performance means something.
