Severe mistake by Mo to provide clear transparency re the Arenado situation.
No, his biggest mistake was failing to accomplish his top 3 goals this offseason.
The causes of his failure were his refusal to coordinate with Arenado and the Cardinals refusal to pony up to make the trade happen.
February 17, 2025 at 10:42 am #276640It is now officially a transition, not a reset.
Hochman: Don’t call it a ‘reset.’ Cardinals now pivoting to ‘transition’ in pivotal 2025 https://t.co/BdZNbW3EMC

ParticipantEvery club may want a stronger feeder system, but few clubs have done it well with a limited budget, like Tampa Bay and Cleveland. And some of those guys are now with the Cardinals. That’s an important thing to note, which is “new news”. I really like the new roving instructors who are specialists at various positions like catcher. And the new major league hitting coach who seems to already be gaining some traction with various players.

jj-cf-stlParticipantYou are not the villain Cranny. I’m still your teammate, even when we differ. I hope the new names work out for us.
February 17, 2025 at 10:54 am #276643I think both the front office and Arenado are to blaim.
Mo for publicly telegraphing in detail what we were willing to do and not do which eliminated any leverage whatsoever. Then Arenado rejecting the trade to Houston now looks silly. He claims he wants to play for a winner. The Cardinals are probably a 4th place team while the Astros, despite losing Bregman and Tucker, will probably win that division again. If not they will be a wild card team.
Everyone is talking nice in camp right now and saying what they need to say but you can bet the mortgage that this isn’t going away and will be revisited in July.

jj-cf-stlParticipantArenado is being given the opportunity to trophy hunt. He may be waiting to see what the next trade proposal brings, just like the FO is, daily. In his position, the win% difference between stl and hou could mean very little.
February 17, 2025 at 11:37 am #276647KCB – the only people who lack credibility are those who only look at the negative side of the coin.
I look at both sides. Bill was a great owner for many years. Mo was a good gm. And I give them both a lot of credit. But they’ve been bad for much longer than their record reflects. That’s where you need to find some acceptance.

ParticipantKCB – I always list both the positives and the negatives re the Cardinals. Have for many years. Best you probably not tell others “what they need to do”.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI hope Bloom negotiated a player budget floor before signing up for five years. Maybe Bloom has an opt-out based on Bills performance financially?!?! Dream big!

ParticipantBloom has a 5 year contract. My biggest wonder is whether, in addition to strengthening the pipeline, he can also get Walker and Gorman turned around at the major league level.
To me there’s a really nice core going forward with Winn, Herrera, Walker, Gorman, Nootbaar, Burleson, Mathews, Hence, Crooks, Wetherholt, etc.February 17, 2025 at 3:03 pm #276651In his position, the win% difference between stl and hou could mean very little.
Depends on if the coastal teams come after him in July or not. If they don’t then he may have missed the boat. He may want to take Mo’s advice and expand his “accepted list”. The demand isn’t what he thinks it is.
February 17, 2025 at 3:56 pm #276652No Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who. Let us now just rejoice that the team has been forced to contend. The great Lombardi said, “The greater the commitment to cause; tge harder it is to quit.”

jj-cf-stlParticipantBill said “watch this!”

1) I can tell you anything I want. 2) Im always respectful. You are the one who always seems to want to get right on the edge of civility.
3) Frankly I lost a lot of respect for you over the Edmonds deal. That was strictly a matter of my value system verses yours and you know it
4) And no you don’t see both sides of things. You are a front offiice brown nose. Always have been.February 17, 2025 at 5:20 pm #276656When the Arenado trade happened, it looked like a lopsided win for the Cardinals. Nobody anticipated that Arenado would crap out a the age of 32. His explanation was that ‘the pitching got better’. That is not Mo’s or WDWJR’s fault. Arenado had the right to decline the trade because of Boras and a handful of greedy owners establishing the precedent. It was a classless act by Aenado to exercise that NTC.
I agree that we’ve got a pretty decent core of good players for 2025, and I think the Cardinals will be competitive in their Division. And it looks like there is even some star potential on the horizon.
February 17, 2025 at 5:38 pm #276658It was a classless act by Aenado to exercise that NTC.
It wasn’t classless at all.
What was classless was the Cardinals negotiating a trade without consulting Arenado knowing that Houston was not on Arenado’s public wishlist.
The Cardinals forced Arenado into a position where he had to exercise his NTC simply because they refused to work with him to facilitate a trade.
That was classless.
Just like it was classless of the Cardinals to publicly mock the idea of swapping Arenado for Stroman.

ParticipantKCB – Suggest you find another forum if you want to insult people. It doesn’t play well here. It’s out of place.
February 17, 2025 at 6:05 pm #276661I have an idea Cranny. I’m done with you. Now you be done with me.
February 17, 2025 at 6:57 pm #276664bccran
ParticipantThat’s very harsh, KCB, and is again very out of place here, but I’ll have to agree. The very best to you.
February 18, 2025 at 8:47 am #276676Best you probably not tell others “what they need to do”.
KCB – Suggest you find another forum if you want to insult people.
Cranny – who do you think you are to tell other people what to do?
This is a forum where we express opinions. It is not your place to tell people what to believe or what to do.

ParticipantLA – Let’s please stop that kind of bickering. It has never had a place on Brian’s forum. Thank you.
February 18, 2025 at 10:31 am #276681Let us now just rejoice that the team has been forced to contend.
In my best Jim Mora of the Colts voice: “Contend? Playoffs? Playoffs?”!
February 18, 2025 at 12:02 pm #276684bccran
ParticipantI hope Arenado isn’t traded. It would be a decent veteran core of Arenado, Contreras, Gray, Fedde, King, Helsley, Matz, Romero, etc.
February 18, 2025 at 12:12 pm #27668514NyquisT
ParticipantSure the Arenado sags is causing a distraction from what is going on in Jupiter. Just wondering, for the young guys was it planned that way? Less pressure on everyone else around. Maybe that is the motive. And Nolan is still here getting all the print. Less so the other guys….. and Mozeliak to some degree.
February 18, 2025 at 12:19 pm #276686I have my own opinions about how we should return to glory. But that’s not happening in 2025. So as always when the games start getting entered into the permanent history of MLB as wons or losses, I will root for the Cardinals to go 162-0. I hope Arenado wins the MVP and I hope we win the Central. I hope all the young guys who had rough seasons become stars. So that’s what my season is based on. Hope. Hope and luck. Lucky our GM couldn’t get a trade done to a team our decling 3rd baseman would agree to.
