Memphis FA RHPMark Montgomery signed a minor league deal with KC with a Spring training invite.he can join Seth Maness who recently re-signed with KC.
November 13, 2017 at 4:05 pm #37735Montgomery signed with the Tigers, not Royals.
November 13, 2017 at 4:13 pm #37737Thanks Derek.I stand corrected.Tigers need pitching and that might be a better chance for Montgomery.
November 13, 2017 at 4:43 pm #37738For whatever reason, the Cards did not like Montgomery enough to put him on the 40-man and give him a shot, even for an interim period. It only took him an instant to catch on elsewhere, though.
November 13, 2017 at 8:43 pm #37744Two former Cardinals minors coaches have been promoted to the Astros MLB staff: Doug White (bullpen coach) and Jeff Albert (2nd hitting coach).

November 14, 2017 at 9:10 am #37756With the passing of 99-year old former Red Sox star Bobby Doerr, the oldest living Hall of Famer is now Red Schoendienst, 94.
November 15, 2017 at 11:03 am #37835Wow. Doerr and Schoendienst are the two second baseman on the 1946 World Series teams. Red seems to be as sharp as ever.
November 28, 2017 at 10:15 am #38322Steve Phillips tweeted that Carlos Beltran is interviewing for the Yankees managerial job.
November 28, 2017 at 11:13 am #38330The Braves are trying to trade Matt Adams before the 12/1 non-tender date, as he is too valuable to let walk for nothing in return.
November 28, 2017 at 11:17 am #38331Cool! I use to love it when our broadcasters would say ‘That sweet swing of Carlos Beltran….’ Hope he can figure out how to be a manager if he gets the job.
November 28, 2017 at 7:58 pm #38363Anthony Garcia and Nick Martini both signed with the A’s today.
November 28, 2017 at 9:23 pm #38372Too bad Don Zimmer could not be Beltran’s bench coach.
December 1, 2017 at 7:36 am #38457The Cards’ 2005 first rounder is still pitching at age 31.
RE-SIGNED Team Israel’s Tyler Herron, who was 9-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 2017, will stay with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks
December 1, 2017 at 8:19 pm #38518Matt Adams was non-tendered by the Braves, so he is now a free agent.
December 6, 2017 at 12:00 pm #38856Not a big news item, but the Yankees gave Matt Holliday’s #17 to new manager Aaron Boone. Holliday is a free agent and Scott Boras says he wants to play in 2018.
December 7, 2017 at 8:45 am #38915Robert Stock is still pitching. He signed a minor league contract with San Diego.
Colin Walsh signed with the Angels.
December 7, 2017 at 5:03 pm #38953Former Cardinals pitcher Anthony Reyes is among those fighting fires in California.

December 7, 2017 at 5:54 pm #38958Todd Cunningham signed a minors deal with the Pirates.
December 7, 2017 at 6:57 pm #38961Former Cardinals pitcher Anthony Reyes is among those fighting fires in California.
Super cool. I always liked Reyes, and thought the Cardinals should have let him pitch more than he did. That year we had Kip Wells, I was constantly harping about how Wells needed to go away and Reyes should start in regular turn, rather than be sort of a spot starter. Reyes always seemed to have tough luck. If he pitched good we did not hit, and if he did not pitch so good, he never seemed to get a break.
He did have that memorable game 1 in the 2006 World Series though. It was a huge win, as it got us to where we could use our rotation effectively after that tough NLCS, and gave us some confidence when most pundits were saying we would get swept right out of that series.
December 14, 2017 at 8:45 pm #39759Pat Neshek returns to the Phillies and Steve Cishek signed with the Cubs for two years.
December 16, 2017 at 10:02 am #39880Former Cards 3B coach and long-time Memphis manager Chris Maloney will be the Double-A manager for the Braves in 2018.
December 16, 2017 at 11:51 am #39900Because so many only know of Maloney as the deposed third base coach, I wanted to remind all of his long success in player development.

December 16, 2017 at 1:39 pm #39907Sounds like a perfect setting for Chris Maloney. His long time service to the Cardinals was truly valuable. I do not think he was well-suited as a third base coach. He did not seem to have a good sense of those critical decisions required when a runner is rounding third. Several times early this past season he let guys “hang out to dry”, and contributed to our overall poor fundamental play.
Still, he seems like a high-character guy who can benefit an organization as a minor league manager/coach/instructor, or first base coach.
December 18, 2017 at 7:17 pm #40019From Ken Rosenthal:
Phillies signing free-agent catcher Eric Fryer to a minor-league contract with an invitation to major-league spring training.
December 20, 2017 at 3:51 pm #40130Juan Nicasio’s signing with the Mariners was announced today, 17M over 2 yrs. This makes Brett Cecil’s contract sound a lot better. I expect Cecil to be much improved in 2018. If not, then our scouts screwed up when they were evaluating him in 2016.
