stlcard25, I know the rules state: “If a player does not make their pick within 24 hours of the last selection, they will lose that pick and be given a compensatory pick at the end of the draft to fill their team out.” Couldn’t that be amended to work like the NFL draft: After 24 hours, the player “A” can still make their pick whenever they choose but the players next in the draft could pick ahead of player “A” if they have their picks ready and submitted prior to player “A”s pick?

I hope mudville checks and realizes he needs to choose a different player before his time is up.

It is important to use these opportunities to express how much mudville’s insights and contributions have meant over the years.

Clearly rules are meant to be followed, but keeping track is getting a little challenging.

I checked the list two or three times and still missed seeing Dean posted at No. 5 by gscottar. I thought I had a sleeper,

I do my best to post the picks as often as possible so that folks can reference them. Here’s a quick way to find if your pick has been made before: on the main page of the forum (not to be confused with the TCN site search function), the search function will show you all the times a particular word has been used. It even shows you in reverse chronological order, for a quicker experience. I will continue to post picks as often as possible for drafters’ reference.

Anyway, I believe that in this case, since mudville amended the vote prior to the next pick being made, we can allow the change. In future cases, this will be the rule. Reasonable reaction time will be allowed but the loss of pick will remain in play for ineligible players and the 24 hour time limit. I want to make sure we keep moving along.

Anyway, moving on in the draft…I need some power and his one full season with the Cards makes him eligible…

Stlcard25, you got my pick for this round and you took one of my dark horses in Dazzy Vance. Mudville got one of my upcoming pitchers in Tudor. Bonds was another dark horse for me.

I am going to go back to my drawing board for this pick. Don’t look for anything until early this evening.

I have never spent this much time at Baseball Reference. I almost went with Allen in left, but he was such a poor fielder out there. That bat is pretty awesome though.

I love the Tudor pick, too. There are just a lot of 35ish war pitchers left, and others had more 20 win seasons.

I just fell for Bonds’s power/speed combo. His only bad season was the one with us.

Dick Allen was primarily a 3B /1B. Lf was just filling a need. My greatest influence at the plate. Tried copying that swing in my young days. Loved Dick Allen and Jack Clark both. Two guys that hit the ball on the screws. Lotta great picks last couple days. Enjoying this. Thanks.

Allen was really cool at the plate. I couldn’t believe he lasted that long.

To be honest I haven’t been doing a WAR deep dive when making my picks so my team may not stack up statistically. I have just been choosing players that I always liked for various reasons.

StL, on my roster matrix I am approaching the remainder of the draft with Joe Medwick as my left fielder, and Stan in right. Medwick will likely be much better than another outfielder that is available as a bench guy.

Stan played over 700 games in right, so he should be available either in left or right (over 900 in left) as well as a lot of first base but for this exercise he will be an outfielder.

I am a bit like gscottar in my picks, going with guys I like or am familiar with. I am going by memory also and not looking at WAR. As happens some of my targeted guys are taken before my turn rolls around, but that is part of the fun.

The amazing thing about this franchise is we can all build good teams. That shows how rich the Cardinals legacy has become over the course of 140 years.

Picking Bobby Bonds seemed dirty to me. I suffered through his actual season, then later became repulsed by the name. Those seasons with 30+ Homers and 40+ stolen bases were too sexy to pass up, so I went into uncharted territory.

I figured that may be the case, but didn’t want to assume. Good OF you’ve got there with those two in it.
