    RULES:

    1. This is a “snake” draft…meaning the #1-9 proceed and then 10-18 follow in reverse order of the previous nine picks. The next set starts with 19-27 and then reverses again. Picks continue until all necessary picks are made (144 in all).

    2. Positions: All standard positions are up for draft: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF. Two bench players will be drafted, and 5 pitchers will be drafted. A manager for each team will be drafted. A total of 16 draft picks per player will be made.

    3. Eligible players: any player who played 1 season with the major league St Louis Cardinals is eligible. Thus, current players are eligible as long as they have played one year in St Louis. Current prospects or players who were traded as minor leaguers are not eligible. It should go without saying, but each player is only draftable by one team. So once Stan, Albert, Gibby, etc are drafted, they are off the board for anyone else.

    4. Positions are not static, as in you are not required to slot a player in any given position. It is requested that you at least slot them in a position that they actually did play at some point, but it is not a requirement. It is possible to change a player position as you go to fit what’s available.

    5. Draft process: I will use a random number generator from sign up slot to set the order. The first pick will be eligible to be chosen Jan 1, 2022 at 9 am ET, 8 am CT. Picks can proceed at each drafter’s convenience. There is no maximum number of picks per day. However, the minimum number of total picks is one. Each player is expected to check in and make their pick in a timely fashion. If a player does not make their pick within 24 hours of the last selection, they will lose that pick and be given a compensatory pick at the end of the draft to fill their team out.

    6. Compensatory picks: any picks that are not in line with the rules (such as you pick a player who is ineligible due to either non-Cardinal status, already chosen, etc) will result in forfeit of that pick and a compensatory pick at the end of the draft. I’ll try to update the roll of picks regularly as we go.

    7. Draft pick format: I’d like to request that your posts/picks look like this (examples):

    “11. stlcard25-Bob Tewksbury, P”

    “24. stlcard25-Ray Lankford, CF”

This will make it easier for me to track.

The next post will be the draft order.

Just to clarify the one year minimum, if a player is traded in the middle of one year to the Cardinals and then is traded away from the Cardinals in the middle of the next year is eligible as long as he was on the team for over 365 days? What about someone who had 2 stints with the Cardinals totaling slightly more than 1 season between the 2 stints?

Are there players for whom that comes into play? I guess let’s say that if they played an entire year OR parts of two different years with the Cards, they are eligible. That should cover guys traded in and then away the next year.

Great pick. I would have taken him number one overall. That is why I am pleased to be at seven.
I propose we consider trades to accommodate the fanatical nature of hero worship. It could spice things up.It is the trade thread of which dreams are made.

I’m pretty sure gscottar is negotiating with Glenn Brummer’s people to make sure he will sign before pulling the trigger.

If Brummer won’t sign, there is always, Steve Lake or Tom Nieto. Think about what a splash Hector Villenueva would make. You can’t teach that kind of power.

You can’t Nigel, nor can you often find the speed Brummer brings to the catcher position. A great weapon to have when a steal of home is in order. 🙂

We once traded for a catcher known for his stolen base prowess. I won’t discuss it further at this time because it hurts my heart and will reveal one of my all time favs.
