Fletcher is up to 13 whiffs in a row.
The MLB record in consecutive plate appearances is 9.

Too early isn’t what it used to be. The 2022 draft is nine weeks away and the new crop will need slots.

ParticipantGo cards.!!
May 15, 2022 at 8:38 am #185237LACF… too small a sample. Fletcher has only been up 13 times. Weird-o-rama.
May 15, 2022 at 8:50 am #185238Look at their bodies of work
May 15, 2022 at 11:19 am #185246That is my point. They really dont have a body of work yet.
May 15, 2022 at 12:11 pm #185249This is Fletcher’s third season in the organization, he can’t get above Low A. He began the season at the complex, is finally allowed to go to Low A and whiffs 13 consecutive times. He is a bust.
Josh Baez, after putting up a .608 OPS in rookie ball last year, similarly can’t get out of the complex. Yes, it may be a bit early to call him a bust, but this is where you have to pay attention to words, and in particular to the word, “seem”.
As for Holgate, nobody had above a 4th round grade on him except the Cardinals. We do have is collegiate experience to look at, and we do have his collective .561 OPS across 183 ABs at Palm Beach. If you have hopes for him based on how high he was drafted, those hopes should be tempered by the reality he was drafted several rounds too early.
Part of running a successful business is knowing when to cut your losses and learning from your mistakes.
Anyway, I consider Fletcher a bust and Holgate one who will never live up to his draft position. Baez, the jury is out, but it’s not looking good.

ParticipantUp to 15 consecutive Ks now. I don’t think I’ve seen anything quite that bad in my life.

ParticipantBaez is a teenager who’s new to pro ball. Give him time. His potential is huge.
May 15, 2022 at 9:36 pm #185328I don’t think they can leave Winn at Peoria much longer. If his fielding is as good as his hitting, he deserves to move up.
I complained over the offseason that the Cardinals organization doesn’t find and draft many middle infielders. Now I look at the list of promising middle infielders and wonder how this happened. All of these kids could be every day players at the Big League level, IMO.
Gorman
Dejong
Sosa
Donovan
Winn
RivasMay 16, 2022 at 10:29 am #185346If you look below Memphis for a decent outfield prospect you won’t find one. Nearly all of them aren’t even hitting their weight. Peoria and Palm Beach outfields are especially poor.

I agree that Winn should move up to AA. Perez certainly isn’t blocking him. This is probably Perez’s last year in the organization.
I also think Walker and Gomez will soon deserve consideration to move up to AAA with the numbers they have put up.
May 16, 2022 at 8:51 pm #185375Só much for the criticism of Baez not making a full season roster
May 16, 2022 at 9:02 pm #185376In all fairness, had Otamendi and Cruz (and Cabell and Holgate) been able to cut it with Palm Beach, Baez might still be in EST. But now he has an opportunity so let’s see how he responds. The jump to PB is proving to be a big challenge for most hitters. I’ll take a deeper look at that in an article tomorrow.
May 16, 2022 at 11:25 pm #185378Koperniak and Pinder has played pretty well for Springfield. I know Pinder is old for a prospect, but if Robertson can be a prospect, Pinder should be considered if he keeps up his play. Also, Baez and Holgate need a whole season of play before being downgraded. Especially Baez, who is just out of high school. I don’t think anyone picked Nick Plummer’s improvement before last season as his prospect star had virtually faded away.
May 17, 2022 at 5:07 am #185379I am anxious to read that article Brian has coming tomorrow. Indeed, the jump from complex to PB essentially skips the two levels that are no longer there. More roster slots at a level does not equal more game experience. There are still 9 players on the field at a time and so many PAs to go around. But then, all 30 orgs are in the same boat, and most of their teams are kicking out butt.
May 17, 2022 at 9:38 pm #185471Perez playing center field tonight for Springfield. It seems logical Winn may be moving up soon. Also wondering how close Winn is to moving into the top 100 prospects.
May 20, 2022 at 12:41 pm #185717Our buddy John Bacon was the HP umpire in last night’s Memphis/Gwinnitt game.
John Nogowski plays 1st base for Gwinnitt (ATL). Not doing too well this season .198.
May 21, 2022 at 8:47 am #185782Peoria’s Graceffo undoubtedly the best numbers of any pitcher in the organization. Here are the #s for our ’20 5th rd. pick after eight starts.
ERA 0.99 ist in the Western League
WHIP 0.68 1st
IP 45.2 1st
Ks 56 2nd
AVG .170 5th
Game Start avg. after 8 starts = 69.6
He should be pushed up to Springfield soon. Maybe after his 10th start.
May 21, 2022 at 9:40 am #185785Nyquis, agreed. Could he and Winn split an Uber? Then send Gomez to Memphis?
May 21, 2022 at 11:30 am #185786Perez seems like Plummer again.
May 21, 2022 at 11:55 am #185788Pages has increased his prospect status more than any other.

ParticipantWannabes that haven’t surfaced (yet) – guys like Perez,
Fletcher, etc.Guys who are obviously exciting right now – Burleson,
Walker, Gomez, Winn, Graceffo, McGreevey, etc.Winn is hittng .355 with an OBP of .416. 10 doubles and 7 triples in the first 6 weeks. Has stolen 15 bases without being through out. Terrific arm from SS. What an outstanding talent. Will probably be promoted soon to AA.
May 21, 2022 at 12:20 pm #185790Assuming Greceffo gets promoted and has success at Springfield, would he have a chance at Memphis for a cup of coffee?
