From an offensive standpoint, Saggese should on the low end put up career numbers resembling that of Richie Zisk. And on the high end, offensive stats on par with Bill Madlock, with quite possibly better power stats.

Unless the LH relievers improve, it could put pressure on them to consider putting Thompson in the pen. Note he is starting tomorrow.
Liberatore and Rom continuing to pitch well could ease the decision if they want to go that way.
Nah, come on now, they need Thompson at SP5/6. The good news is, the rest of the pen gets lhb’s out too. I think JoJo allowed a negative ops+ vs lefties last season, in around 40 PA’s. Been a while since I saw it.
Vs RHB’s, for this pen, could reach the puke point. Major concern.
For guys trying to earn a spot spring training stats are important. For others not so much. It has always been difficult for me to take spring training stats too seriously because so often there is little correlation to what happens after the bell rings on opening day. The biggest accomplishment should be to get your work in and don’t get hurt.
Sticking with the LH side of the pen, do you guys consider Romero more established than King? Would you be ok going with one lefty plus Pallante?
Yes I think Jo Jo has earned the benefit of the doubt for opening day. He was really good last year. Also, he is out of options and King isn’t.
With the 3 batter rule now, give me the best eight vs righties. Two or three of them will be very good vs lefties.

This offseason I would have taken King over Pallante. Now the dugout has new info on where they are at today, and I don’t, since I don’t look for ST numbers and just catch highlights.
I follow Marilyn’s weekly updates, and this forum for Cardinal content, and that’s about it until opening day.

It is old news. Middleton left for the weekend and is already back. His name was on the posted list of available relievers yesterday.
He asked for the absence back when he signed with the Cardinals to watch his brother play in the Oregon state basketball tournament.
Hard to imagine this would affect his readiness for the season. He hasn’t allowed a run yet in limited early action. He and Kittredge have both looked good.
Gameday shows Liberatore hanging out in the middle of the zone a lot as he watches some pitches get hammered. I wonder if there’s a correlation there?
Cards win 8-6. Liberatore gets the win despite not dominating (five runs including 2 HRs in 4 IP). McGreevy added three scoreless frames. Cards are 7-8-2 on the spring.
Scott 3-for-3 with a steal and two runs scored. Burleson 2-for-3 including a HR and 2 RBI. Winn two walks and two runs scored. Walker 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, SB and CS. Herrera with a HR, 2 RBI.
What the chance now of Scott making the team? Especially with Edman out?
I think the odds are getting higher each day. The logical thing to do would be go with Burly, Carlson, Walker, and Siani but Scott may force their hand. A lot of it also depends on how long they expect Edman and Noot to be out. I would think Noot would be back by the middle of April but Edman I don’t know. Wrist isues can be a real problem. Regardless, if they only need someone for two weeks it makes more sense to go with Siani in my opinion.
I haven’t tuned in to very many practice game innings this year and I don’t think I’ve seen Saggese take a solitary AB. But if he turns out as good of a hitter as Mad Dog I’ll be pretty happy about that…Anyone who ever saw Madlock ply his trade in the batter’s box is entirely aware that he seemed impossible to get out at times. He also had a temper that earned him the Mad Dog nickname. I wouldn’t mind too much if some of the Redbird players took on the same type of intensity. In any case, Bill Maddlock could flat out hit a baseball.
