Wheeler’s demonstrating why it’s nice to have a first rate SP’er lined up to work the opener of a post-season series. Philly up 1-0 and Wheeler at 89 pitches through 6. I’m letting him work in the 7th if I’m on the top step.
Wheeler turns in 7 innings of shutout work on 111 pitches. That’s only 1 more pitch than it took for Chris Carpenter to work through a CG shutout 13 years ago in the same ballpark. Anyone who watched that baseball game saw one of the best pitching duels in post-season baseball history.
Wheeler exits after 7 and now Hoffman allows the first two Mets to reach in the 8th. Hardly ever fails.
Mets now tie it up in the 8th and have baserunners at 2B and 3B with no outs. Should have left Carpent…er uh…Wheeler in there…
Can’t at all fault Thomson, but you do the Mets a tremendous favor when you take the baseball away from Wheeler in a 1-0 game.
Extremely nice throw by Iglasias. His momentum causes a hook and he played the hooked throw perfectly.

Torres touches up Wacha with an oppo 2 run tater to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the 3rd. That’s too bad.
Nice…Melendez returns the favor and touches up Cole for a 2 run tater to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. Now Pham follows up with a solid base hit to LF…Go Royals!
