Well texascard, its because the mets were just as close to losing it as they were winning it. More money wouldnt have changed anything in the series for milwaukee. They would have still had the same pitcher in there. Mets have money but they still had butto in there throwing bp pitches. The rangers won the ws last year and they arent a super high spend team.
Well Willie the Mets didn’t lose. Their money players came through when it counted. That’s called star power. The Cardinals used to have that but no longer do and that’s the damn point.
Texas, not all of the remaining playoff teams are big spending teams. Cleveland, Detroit, and Kansas City are all relatively low spending teams actually.
Boy all of these Division Series matchups could have some fireworks. The Tigers and Guardians are division rivals. The Royals and Yankees have a tremendous playoff history for us old enough to remember.
Then in the NL, oh my! The Mets and Phillies absolutely detest each other as do the Dodgers and Padres. Should be interesting.
At least they made it… but let’s face it. The NL Central is far from elite.

Money players didnt come through for houston. Far as the mets, thats probably the first time alonso has come through in that or similiar situation. Ive seen him strike out many times in that situation. Money guys get you through the season but many times in the playoffs its the lesser paid players that get the big hits.
That Brewers-Mets series was electric. The Mets again get a late home run, off Devin Williams no less, to advance. Are the Mets a team of destiny? It is looking that way so far. Also, three of the four series were won by the road team.
On a slightly different topic, rumors are the Cubs will go after Alonso this off season.
Yeah, the road teams did well despite the format of the early WC rounds theoretically being designed to place a large disadvantage on the visiting team. And regarding Brewer’s closer Williams, it was obviously that dang malfunctioning headset that threw him off kilter…
Both division winners get axed in the first round and the O’s, who compiled the best W/L record of the ALWC teams, also suffer an early dismissal. We’ll see what happens when the teams that received a bye take to the field, but I’m beginning to suspect that it may help a team when they’re required to fight tooth and nail all the way up until the final out of the regular season. Keeps the fellas up on their proverbial toes.
Cleveland out to an early 5-0 lead over the Tigers. Plenty of game left, so maybe the Tigers can claw back to make it a contest. From this point forward I’m referring to the Cleveland team as the Indians…Haha!

Well that and having your star player be an actual star. Ramirez has been great.
And you can make a real solid case that they have the best closer in the game with 47 saves and an ERA that says, 0.61…The party’s over when he enters the game.
Schwarber gets Philly off to a fast start with the lead-off tater. I still don’t understand the concept of having a guy like him in the lead-off slot, but I can’t argue with the results of this game so far…1-0 Philly.
Man alive…I just took a closer look at Cleveland’s BP and they undoubtedly have the best in baseball. Their closer Clase and their primary set-up guy, Smith, have only allowed 3 HR’s in 150 IP’ed between the two of them. And between 4 pitchers in their BP they’ve only surrendered 9 HR’s in little over 290 IP’ed and all four have a season ERA less than 1.92. I’d have to guess that both those sets of numbers almost has to be close to some kind of record.
A lot like that 2016 Cleveland team that should have knocked off our arch nemesis. Lockdown bullpen, solid rotation, and enough offense to get by with.
Yeah, gscottar, other than their closer, Clase, I had no idea how formidable their BP is. I was floored when I took an across the board look.
Other teams besides the Cardinals seem to have big money post season chokers. There’s no playing around that.
