Another great game. I thought Roberts pulled Yamamoto too early – one hit and only 80-something pitches. But that is how they do it these days, and he did have some IL time this year as I recall.
Will be interesting to see if Ohtani can go.
As for Edman, yeah, solid player. His main drawback is he is not all that good from the left side, and does not get on base quite enough to be ideal at the top of the order. But as a lower order hitter and defensive player he is great. Donovan is similar, but I think he is a little better than Tommy in that he gets on base a little more and has a bit more pop.
October 27, 2024 at 10:02 am #270627Too bad Mo didn’t value Edman higher.
The Cardinals just do not pay serious post arb money to a position player who is not a middle of the order power bat. Period. The issue of selling low when he was hurt is another issue. The sooner Mo is out, the better, but my understanding is that ML roster moves is not Bloom’s strong suit. (Brian has mentioned the Betts trade). We all need to keep that in mind.

jj-cf-stlParticipantBOS made themselves vulnerable in trade. Too much desperation to unload. The PHI gm wouldn’t have done any better, if he had stayed. Same thing Mo will face this winter. Always a line ready to pick your pocket.
October 27, 2024 at 3:48 pm #270638I’ve been led to understand that Ohtani will be in the Dodger line-up Monday for game 3 at Yankee Stadium. That’s obviously good news for the Dodgers. As one of the Big 3 former MVP bats in the Dodger’s line-up, Ohtani’s collected 10 RBI’s during this ’24 postseason to go along with Freddie Freeman’s total of 6 RBI’s. Mookie Betts leads the 3 former MVP award winners with 13 RBI’s during this year’s postseason. Tommy Edman’s 13 post-season RBI’s ties him with Bett’s for the Dodger post-season lead. Eddie also leads all other L.A. Dodgers with 19 hits, a .365 BA, and 4 SB’s in this year’s post-season.
October 28, 2024 at 5:17 pm #270693The two SP’ers for tonight’s WS game 3 have 150 IP’ed of work between the two of them for the ’24 regular season. I was situated in the RCF bleachers at Busch Memorial Stadium for a WS game 7 in which the two SP’ers for that game had worked a total of 524.2 IP’ed bewtween the two of them during the ’68 regular season. The total salary in 1968 for those two WS game 7 pitchers was $110K. The total 2024 regular season salary for tonight’s two WS game 3 SP’ers is a little over $10,000,000. With inflation and labor costs being what they are these days, both of those figures seem like a blue light bargain aisle special…Haha!
October 28, 2024 at 7:18 pm #270701I don’t think there’s any question that this game is of the must win variety for the Yankees. If they lose, this WS won’t be over tonight, but I strongly suspect it’ll be over. They need a W.
October 28, 2024 at 7:22 pm #270702I’ll also say that even with a W tonight, it’s going to take some genuine Yankee magic to bring the 28th WS championship to the Bronx.
October 28, 2024 at 7:24 pm #270703Here comes the most despised man in NY.
October 28, 2024 at 7:24 pm #270704Whoa…And Freddie rips a 1st inning 2 run TATER!
October 28, 2024 at 7:26 pm #270705Freeman’s dialed in to a point that he’d be dangerous in a padded cell…
October 28, 2024 at 8:07 pm #270706When Eddie reaches, Eddie scores…3-0 Dodgers.
October 28, 2024 at 8:14 pm #270707Edman read that wounded duck to RF like he were a champion Labrador retriever.
October 28, 2024 at 9:07 pm #270710I noticed the Edman read too, 1td. He’s so dialed in on those little things — things that aren’t really little.
Edited to add: I noticed “dialed” is hyphenated above in my post. I didn’t do that. Weird that the board logic would hyphenate that word rather than drop the whole word to the next line. I bet there’s a writing style guide somewhere that would recommend against that.
October 28, 2024 at 9:15 pm #270711Yeah, baseball instincts are gigantic on a baseball field…
October 28, 2024 at 9:21 pm #270712Whoa…Tommy bailed him out on the 1-6 force at 2B and then Graterol got away with a bad mistake on that 1-0 pitch to Stanton.
October 28, 2024 at 9:25 pm #270713Now Stanton with a solid base hit to CF and Roberts has seen plenty enough and goes out and gets Graterol.
October 28, 2024 at 9:31 pm #270714I stepped away for about 40 minutes. When I came back the first thing I saw was the Edman save at second base. Then I saw the replays of Betts’ lunging catch and Stanton getting gunned down at the plate. The Dodgers’ defense is delivering.
October 28, 2024 at 9:33 pm #270715Yankees are beginning to get low on enough outs to make up a 4 run deficit and they don’t climb out of this 4 run hole they may have found their final resting place.
October 28, 2024 at 9:44 pm #270717Yeah, Euro, the Dodgers are outclassing the Yankees in all areas in this WS. Dare I say the door to the broom closet may be opening up?

ParticipantI just tuned in. I dont know why austin wells bothers showing up at the park. He should judt stay home, maybe announce his retirement from the game. It should be hard to be that bad

ParticipantIf that was a called strike not a swinging third strike on torres, that was one of the worst calls ive ever seen. No where near the strike zone.
October 28, 2024 at 10:17 pm #270721I thought I may have heard a couple of catcalls during that last Judge PA.
October 28, 2024 at 10:46 pm #270722Well, that’s that. Has any team ever dug out of a 3-0 WS hole?
October 28, 2024 at 10:50 pm #270723Nope…
October 28, 2024 at 10:51 pm #270724Dare I say the door to the broom closet may be opening up?
Related to this comment, I was surprised at the stats they showed the last inning. No team in World Series history, after going down 3-0, has forced even a Game 6, let alone coming back to win. There have been 3-0 leads 24 times previous to this year. Sweeps happened in 21 of those and the other three ended in 5 games.
Edman with the final nail in the coffin for Game 3 with a throw to 1B after a 360 spin.
