I’m with you on Weaver, Willie. He’s been effective during this post-season, but he looks to be as hittable as he’s been his entire career. I’m impressed that Luke’s still around.

I’ve been led to understand that tonight’s game featured the first and only walk-off GS in the 121 years of modern WS history. If true, this WS is starting off pretty good and should only get better. If it does, baseball fans may be in for one of the all time classic endings to the ’24 season. Man, Freeman really uncoiled on that first pitch fastball from Cortes. He probably should have worked to Betts…Haha!
1td, Eddie is my second favorite Cardinal of all-time behind Stan the Man. The Cardinals insulted me personally by trading him.
I, too, was dismayed when the Cardinals traded Edman. On the other hand, I’m delighted for Eddie who now gets to play for a winner and avoids who knows how many years of slogging through the rebuild/reset swamp as Mo and his successors hunt for promising minor leaguers who might eventually make a team.

Great game! That one was enjoyable from the tribute to Fernando through the salami by Freddie.
John Smoltz is really good as an analyst as well, especially insightful on the strategy of pitch sequence and how one call can change the approach.
Both Edman and Cabrera were getting too hurried in the moment, last night. Both trying to do too much, too quick. Even the pros.
Cabrera overrunning the ground ball reminded of Edman doing the same a couple postseasons ago, going left, playing 2B.

Enough of the Freddie love from all you nochos munchers. Us wonks know better. Baseball Savant has Freddie’s avg. exit velo at 89.4 which ranks 107th. In other words, he stinks. The Cardinals have Nootbaar, Contreras, Goldschmidt and Burleson among qualifiers who beat that. There is also Ozuna, Adolis Garcia, Tyler O’Neill, Tommy Pham and Arozarena who beat that. Jordan Walker also beats it.
Freddie regularly is at or near the top in doubles but has 22 measly homers. Gap power in other words. Obviously, his launch angle needs to be fixed so he can tater up like a real man. The 15% K rate is the tell. He doesn’t swing hard enough. With that overall profile it is not surprising he doesn’t send the mistakes into outer space like a champ. If we had him we would have long since gotten him into the hitting lab booth to work the biomechanics and optimize that swing. We could turn that chump into another Gorman.
