Yeah, she’s my first and only, Euro. My son was almost 41 when she came into this world. She’s about 20 months old now. I always kind of thought I’d prefer a grandson, but she sure did prove me wrong…Haha! She’s starting to talk a whole lot and my heart melts every time I get to spend time with her. She takes after her Paw Paw 1TD in regards to she loves chocolate ice cream…Haha! And congrats on the arrival of your second grandchild…They sure are precious!

Once a player gets out of the pressure cooker of St Louis and into the laid back atmosphere of NY or LA, they blossom into the player they always could be. Hahaha!

Yes, of course Edman wins the LCS MVP. We could have sent Jordan Walker to them and he would have ended up the MVP. Just seems to be our regular modus-operendi of late. It helped Tommy that the Mets used a lot of lefties, as he is much better from the right side.
We can make an easy prediction for 2025. Dylan Carlson will win a playoff MvP. he will end up somewhere on a post season team, and light it up in a series to take home some hardware.
Not necessarily here, but on the internet, I am surprised that some people are surprised about Edman. He is a good player whose last year with St. Louis was ruined by injury.
Having said that, Edman is in about the same situation as Helsley. One year away from free agency and set to make $9.5 million next year on a team that is cutting payroll. He was not likely to be re-signed after.
My point is that if Edman was still with the Cards, he would be talked about right now as a trade candidate same as Helsley.
IMO, if folks want to be upset, it should be about Fedde being less than advertised…
Anyone who got a glimpse of Edman playing in StL. knew without question that he’s the sort of baseball player that is a key component in the formulation of a roster designed to win baseball games. When he was here I could often see how much opposing managers of note valued not only the talent, but also the numerous intangibles that Tommy Edman contributes on a baseball field. He’s a 5 tool intangible player in the sense of determination, intelligence, tenacity, sacrifice and affability. And oh, did I mention that he’s extremely talented? Any baseball team on this planet that was dedicated to winning would be thrilled to have Eddie on their roster.
Despite stars like Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Judge, Soto, and Cole what are the odds that the World Series MVP is going to be one of Edman, Flaherty, or Weaver? The ex-Mo factor is strong.

I’m a little surprised that the WS doesn’t get underway until Friday. This is supposed to be baseball and that’s four days idle until the fellas get cranked up again for game speed action on the field. Next thing you know they’ll take a two week haitus for the purpose of pressers and promos like they do for the stupor bowl in the no fun league.
1TD, unlike a few years ago I think MLB now schedules the World Series in advance regardless of when the NLCS and ALCS wrap up. I can only imagine they do this to try to maximize certain TV nights and let the hype train build for a few days like the NFL does with the Super Bowl. And maybe it allows fans a few days to make travel arrangements. Heck I really don’t know the exact answer but I noticed a few years ago that it was scheduled in advance.
TV Executives would cringe but I miss the daytime World Series games. I remember Games 4 and 5 of the 1982 Series being played at County Stadium under the sun.
It should be a fun and entertaining WS. It’s hard to imagine that it’s been 43 years since these two storied teams have opposed one another in the fall classic, but I’m certain quite a few of us can recall those unforgettable matchups in the consecutive ’77 and ’78 WS. Quite a few names come to mind. Munson, Jackson, Chambliss, Garvey, Smith, Cey, Guidry, John, Lyle, Sutton, Hunter, Hooton, Gossage and Welch. Then there’s Billy and Tommy and we can’t leave out Rat’s old friend, Dusty…Haha! At any rate, this ’24 WS provides us with some pretty nice names on a marquee emblazoned with Judge, Stanton, Soto, countered with Betts, Ohtani, Freeman and some little guy named, Eddie, who may tip the scales over to the Dodgers favor…I fully expect this one to live up to billing.
Daytime World Series games were the best! I wish they would go back to it. Start the series on a Wednesday night, then play Thursday’s game in the afternoon.
Then go Saturday night, Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon. If games 6 and 7 are needed go Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Some day games, some night games.
Yeah, gscottar, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m just whining because I have to wait until Friday…Haha! And I’m with you on the idea of returning to having a WS game or two played under the sunshine. They could do it on a weekend and not only do I think that almost all baseball fans would enjoy it, but I also don’t think it would hurt viewership. In fact, I’m guessing that the modern day novelty of the idea may latch on to some extra young people tuning in to witness something they’d never seen before. It would be near to something along the lines of a once in a century solar eclipse…Haha!
The Yankees have named Cole as their Game 1 SP’er, but the Dodgers are still TBA. I’m wondering if Flaherty may take a turn in either of the first two games at Dodger Stadium. If he does, it’ll be a risky decision. Touchy and temperamental Jack is sporting a second rate 7.15 ERA in a total of 15.1 IP’ed for the Dodgers during the ’24 postseason. If Roberts is going to trust him with the baseball, I sure wouldn’t wait until a Game 7 to do so.
That’s another sad loss. “El Toro” was really the rage when he came on to the Big League scene at only 19 years of age and won both the NL CYA and NL ROY at the age of 20 in the strike shortened ’81 split-season. Others on here may be aware that his last game in the Big Leagues was a starting assignment against the Cincinnati, Reds in July of ’97 in which he was decked out in a St. Louis, Cardinal home uniform. So long, Fernando.

There was a chance for an earlier WS start. Had both LCSes completed in 5 games or fewer, then the World Series would’ve started Tuesday October 22.

A few hours after your post, the Dodgers pegged Flaherty as their Game 1 starter.
Yeah, I see that now, Euro. He could be feast or famine so to speak. He was good in a win or go home game 5 of the NLDS in ’19, but the Cardinals staked him to a 10 run 1st inning lead…Haha! At any rate, it’s my guess he’ll be either really effective or lousy, but if the trend continues for former Cardinals in the post-season, he’ll be the first pitcher to record 3 WS winning decisions since Randy Johnson.
Jack gets the baseball for a turn in the WS opener at Dodger Stadium tonight while the Yankees counter with Cole who’s been more than reasonably consistent and effective in over 120 IP’ed of postseason work in his career. We all know that Jack has a strong tendency to become more than a little touchy and temperamental at times, so it may be worth the price of admission every time he faces Soto who I’m guessing may deploy his usual antics and toy with Jack a little bit in an effort to induce the RHP’er to become spun up and out of control.
