So much of the game is mental, as they say. No Yadi behind the plate has to be difficult for Waino. BTW, Wainwright is locked into a contract that pays him $17.5M this year.
March 2, 2023 at 5:03 pm #213430Flaherty has been slid back one day to Sunday due to minor discomfort in the lower half. Montgomery would also pitch on schedule Sunday. Likely Connor Thomas to start on Saturday. Mikolas to start on Friday.
In the post-game with Marmol, it was mentioned that Waino had back spasms several weeks ago and then leg stiffness and other related discomforts. He has been working on getting his lower half right. Oli commented his velo was improved from 84 to 86.
March 2, 2023 at 6:25 pm #21343784 to 86 awesome
March 3, 2023 at 5:23 am #213450Lets hope they got the nerf noodles out of the bat rack over night. I hate losing even before it counts. Wins and losses count the same in April as in September, so we need to be in winning form by the end of this month. It gets late early.

March 3, 2023 at 9:03 am #213454Haven’t seen Edman’s name in the lineup cards lately. He ain’t ailing I hope?
March 3, 2023 at 9:26 am #213456Edman in Korea for WBC.

March 3, 2023 at 11:28 am #213461Goldschmidt scratched. Yepez batting third at first base instead. No reason given yet.
March 3, 2023 at 11:52 am #213463Aside from 1 catcher and maybe someone I missed, I don’t see any of last year’s DSL guys on the Spring Training roster. Is this normal? Maybe there are just immigration issues to work out that aren’t done yet. But I assume some of them will be at the Complex or PB this year.
March 3, 2023 at 1:25 pm #213472Huddy threw two double play balls in the top of the fourth. Motter muffed the first one, but Hudson threw another double play ball and that one got him out of the inning with no runs scored. I know there are fans who have lost confidence in Hudson, but I still like him a lot. I think it’s because those ground balls he keeps throwing result in some exciting defense on the infield.
March 3, 2023 at 1:38 pm #213473Connor Thomas is pitching tomorrow (Sat. 3/5). I’d love to see him pitch, but the game will not be televised. After Saturday’s game 6 of the next 8 games will be televised. So there’s a pretty good chance that we’ll see him soon.
March 3, 2023 at 2:05 pm #213474They had both of last weekend’s games televised on BSMW our TV cable set-up, Mudville, but haven’t had any since. I was guessing they thought only weekend ST’ing games would generate decent ratings. I just checked and can’t find any of this weekend games scheduled for TV broadcast on the same BSMW network. I’m guessing that you have a different cable package and, if so, where do you see these games scheduled for broadcast? Thanks…
March 3, 2023 at 2:23 pm #213487We have U-verse, mainly because my wife likes the way way their remote works. There have been times when I wished we could switch to Spectrum, buy………
Here’s the broadcast schedule as I know it:

March 3, 2023 at 2:33 pm #213488That’s what we have, Mudville. I checked on the “guide” feature that forwards to upcoming programming, but didn’t see any games this weekend on BSMW. I thought maybe they were being broadcast on a different channel. I could have very well made a mistake and missed it, so I’ll have to double check. At any rate, thanks for the link!
March 3, 2023 at 2:37 pm #2134891td, check the schedule again. I’m pretty sure I’m seeing that Sunday’s game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Midwest.
March 3, 2023 at 2:38 pm #213490I see it now, Mudville. Nothing on Saturday, but I’ll get the Redbirds/Mets on Sunday and then the Astros on Monday. You’d think they’d broadcast both games on the weekend instead of having one on a Monday at noon when most people are subjected to being confined to a salt mine…Haha!
March 3, 2023 at 5:21 pm #213495Hi Jnevel, I see 4 DSL guys, C Makiel Hernandez, INF Anyelo Encarnacion, INF Jonathan Mejia, and RHP Leonel Sequera.
March 3, 2023 at 5:27 pm #213496Who is this a Motter guy? Can the kid play? That is what we called Jason Motte back in the day.
March 3, 2023 at 6:14 pm #213499I think he’s a 4A type bikemike.
March 3, 2023 at 6:17 pm #213500Thanks LRCardinal. I still expected a couple more. I’m not sure how I missed Mejia!
Motter isn’t exactly a kid bikeMike. He’s either 33 or 34. But he has power and can hit ok so he gives us some depth should the 2 Nolan’s get injured.
March 3, 2023 at 6:48 pm #213501Yeah, I looked up Motter last weekend when I saw him appear at 3B in a game on TV. I noticed that he managed to make a pretty nice play for an out on a little flare pop up in foul territory, so that’s when i looked him up. He’s bounced around and accumulated right around 450 PA’s in the Big Leagues with 6 teams. The Cardinals are his 7th. In any event, I have to hand it to a guy who’s managed to persevere and survive at almost 33. Although he sports a .191 BA and has only collected 10 HR’s in his entire 6 year career, he’s probably made a pretty good living putting up those intimidating numbers…Haha!
March 3, 2023 at 7:07 pm #213502BikeMike’s mention of Jason Motte got me to thinking that even though Motte recorded the last 3 outs of the ’11 WS with a perfect visitor half of the 9th, he doesn’t seem to get nearly as much recognition in Cardinal folklore as does Bruce Sutter…Oh well, the fact that The Mottster was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in 4.1 IP’ed during that WS probably has a little something to do with it…Haha!

cardsfan64ParticipantJnevel and lrcardinal,
I see 4 DSL guys, C Makiel Hernandez, INF Anyelo Encarnacion, INF Jonathan Mejia, and RHP Leonel Sequera.
I found a few more catchers that were on the TCN DSL team, Alejandro Loaiza, Justin Guerrero, and Luis A Rodrequez. I also thought there would be more coming for ST from the DSL. Noticed a few names missing from that list that are still on the FCL roster. Not sure if that means they are being cut or just having issues getting back to the states.
