I was placed on hold with them for almost an hour, jaeger. When I was finally patched through and voiced that same complaint, I was asked to provide an email address and my mom’s maiden name…
Well, I finally got to see Jordan Walker step into a batter’s box. Although he K’d, he worked the count full and unleashed a couple of nice looking rips.
I’m just about to head home from work, so I’ll miss the whole game. Hopefully there will be some highlights posted.
Donovan got ahold of one for a HR to RF on his first AB, Bling, so he apparently left the seal on the biometrics jar unbroken…
I agree, that camera angle was way, WAY too low! You couldn’t even see any of the plate. I sure hope that’s not the norm this year.

So far, I like the pitch clock and the banned shift even though it costs Wainwright and the Cardinals a run. I think we’re going to be watching games that are more fun to watch this year. I get it that there are those that disagree, but to me, it just looks more like the good old game I grew up watching.
Nice to see Woodford have success. Brad Thompson made the comment that his metrics are not viewed as being great, but ‘he just keeps getting outs’. I don’t know about the metrics angle but Woodford does just keep getting outs. Too early to tell, as we all know, but so far so good.
I’m sure it was written about here. But I missed the fact that the Cardinals brought Dusty Blake, the new pitching coach, straight from Duke’s pitching coach to the Cardinals and MLB. He looked as enthusiastic as can be on camera. The Cardinals are thinking outside the box, they’re being innovative.
Okay, I clearly understand why the Redbird manager would be extremely offended by Bucknor’s slight, but to spout off to the media about the incident by hurling insults back towards Bucknor via the media illustrates a greater degree of poor judgement than the umpire displayed by refusing to shake Marmol’s hand. All it will accomplish is to possibly make things more difficult for his ballclub every time Bucknor’s assigned as an umpire to a series in which the Cardinals are participants. Especially if he’s situated behind HP. It was a jerk move on Bucknor’s behalf and I’m entirely on Marmol’s side, but the last thing he wants to do is to exacerbate the situation by voicing his unsolicited feelings to the press. Not too smart.

There are people whose hand I would decline to shake, and I don’t think that means I have no class. I think Ollie felt humiliated and reacted petulantly.
I’m not at all sure how Marmol felt, but I’m entirely certain he reacted without thinking about the possible adverse consequences. In a very real sense, there’s a possibility that he or his team could be struck with an arrow fledged with his own feathers…
And another thing…I can’t speak for anyone else, but if I don’t particularly care for someone for one reason or another, I’d be hard pressed to initiate or offer up a friendly gesture or greeting such as a handshake to that individual. I’d view it as either a phony gesture on my part, or as setting myself up for an escalation of my ill feelings towards that person if my friendly gesture were somehow slighted.
Turning from Ollie’s exploits, why would Walker come in to play LF, when he is supposed to be acclimating to RF? It could have as easily been Gomez to LF and Walker to RF. I know from my own experience that if you are used to one corner it is rather disorienting to find yourself playing the opposite. The ball off the bat looks different from the opposite side. The caroms off the wall are different. Making plays towards CF or towards the line will be reversed as far as forehand or backhand, which in turn affects how you transition to a position from which to make a throw, which means the footwork is basically mirrored from what muscle memory will want to have you doing. It seems like a horrible idea to throw that at Walker.
It felt strange to me, not having Danny Mac calling the game. At the time he was let go, I strongly agreed. Now, after reading his thoughtful piece detailing his depression, and remorse, I still think parting ways with him was probably the right thing to do, but I’m not as adamant. I will miss him doing the games.
I’m sure Chip Caray will be fine, and he was okay today, but it’s going to take me a while to get used to him.
Regarding the game, I was excited to see the short glimpse of Walker. I liked what I saw of Woodford, and agree that Marmol probably overreacted about the handshake and comes off as petulant. Hope it doesn’t have negative repercussions with the men in blue.
Yeah, he should have simply kept still about it, Jedi. He created the story and it’s already been picked up by both AP and CBS Sports.

In just a few innings I fell in love with the pitch clock and no shift. MLB finally did something right.
Here is Sunday’s lineup. Interesting that Walker is in left. Perhaps they don’t want him to appear to be as threatening to Carlson. Relievers are at the bottom right. A number of STEP campers are also available.

They sure do submit these ST line-ups early, BW. I think I may have asked this before, but is there any set deadline for submitting them during the regular season, or can managers wait until they meet with the umpiring crew just prior to first pitch? If they can, that’s what I’d do. It seemed like TLR sometimes kept the line-up card up his sleeve until right before game time.
Man, that’s lousy, Bling. In fact, it’s not even that good…I noticed that Walker’s being situated in LF again today with Burleson over on the other side of the OF. I guess the Redbird manager’s going to play OF bingo as long as he isn’t playing with genuine money.
