I’m confident Mo’s computer likes Joyce but how soon is too soon to take a reliever?

Do you think Mo tells Randy Flores who he will draft? I don’t…I think it is a process run by Flores who communicates with the Front office.

I think Flores is in lockstep with Mo’s ‘philosophy’ or he would be watching the draft on TV with Shildt.

Philosophy is not the same as telling him who to pick.

The Cards minor leagues could use some middle infielders. Hopefully they can add a few.

Jimmy Crooks is a LH catcher that played for Oklahoma in the CWS championship series.

    CC,
My post should read “pitchability” = Baseball IQ.

Have i missed something or have the Card only selected college players so far?

I wonder if speed and base stealing may have increased importance going forward. Players like Winn, Antico, and recently drafted Scott, if they can get on base, may be more prominent with the increased base sizes next year. The 3 players above have been successful 90% or more stealing bases, and, in theory that %should go up next year.

In Rounds 2-4 only 14 high school players drafted….that seems unusually low

    We shopped at Lefties-R-Us.

There were some pretty interesting money savers. There should be a few HS potential impact players on the board still.

I wonder which players are likely signing under slot?

Lots of great write ups. Personally I think a lot of the guys particularly after round 6 probably won’t be in the organization long. Far as the first three picks, Cardinals seen to be going after control guys. The guys all clock out low 90s. I have no issue with that as long as we maintain a great defensive squad. But hopefully I’m wrong and a couple of those later picks work out. That catcher out of Oklahoma intrigues me. I’m not sold on the catchers we have otherwise. I like knizner as a backup but not as a starter.

Cards 27 – why would they draft players tô sign below slot if the dont draft anyone that needs over slot tô sign?

Carioca, I think I read that they changed back to the rule that bonus over 10k past Rd 10 count against the pool again. So maybe they draft 3-4 high school guys in early teens and sign 1-2 with the offer of quickest sign gets money? I can’t say I am too excited with this draft but I usually am wrong so maybe that bodes well

    It’s $125k for rounds 11-20. I believe it’s $20k for undrafted free agents.

So, yes, there is incentive to go underslot in rounds 1-10, then overslot in rounds 11-20.

For instance, if you sign a guy for $400,000 in round 10, he counts $400k against your bounus pool. But, if you sign him in round 11, he only counts $275,000 against your bonus pool.

So, take the overslot guys in rounds 11-20 (if they are still on the board).

Sounds just like a way screwing people out of money they deserve. To me MLB should have a group of people that sets a grade on every player in the draft and that grade should have a equitable pay range and the team should be required to offer him something within that range. And there should be a group that reviews these cases and if they feel the team is trying to go low on purpose then they penalized money.
