I think at this point, the handwriting is on the wall. The season’s start will be delayed. We’ve seen this game before…owners were willing to go as low as 60 (maybe fewer) games in 2020 so who knows what the bean counters will spit out as the number that the owners will make enough money and cause maximum pain for players will end up being? 130 game season? 140?

I am afraid Pugs is going to be wrong on this one.

Long time between now and Monday, Rat. At the risk of sounding cocky, when it comes to baseball matters, I don’t swing and miss very often. Play ball!

stlcard25, I agree with you. One other factor that helps the owners’ financial resolve to “lose” money at the start of the season is the additional windfall from the expanded playoffs they are expecting to receive.

The MLBPA has stated that if regular season games are missed they will not agree to playoff expansion. We will see if that is a bluff or not, but if it isn’t, that is a pretty big stick instead of a carrot.

As each day passes I think opening day could be May 1 or later.

Just this morning I went on to MLB.tv to cancel my auto renewal. Unfortunately, they don’t let you manually tell them your reason for cancellation because I had a nice writeup for them all lined up.

Yep, I also had to select “Other”…

Hopefully they get a large number of “others” as tens of thousands cancel out their yearly auto renewals in the days leading up to Feb 28th.

The guys on the MLB Network said last night if a deal is not reached by February 28 (my birthday, by the way) that who knows when a deal would be reached because there is no longer any urgency. So, if no deal is reached by the 28th we might be looking at a June or July start.

This has the potential to drag out for a long, long time. As for me personally, I am on the side of the owners in this one.

Quite an exchange… (Samson is the former president of the Marlins. The Braves were cited as they are the only team who is publicly owned and has financial statements generally accessible.)

Latest reports are that the negotiations have picked up some steam. Let’s hope so. I want to see baseball in 2022.

Draft lottery is one area in which the two sides are said to be making progress. Avoiding the obvious answer of a salary floor, the owners are giving the sleeves out of their vest.

Pretty soon even Pugs is going to lose faith.

Let’s face it folks. The regular season is going to be delayed. Highly unlikely the miracle will be coming at the 11:59 mark.

Either way, I will still be going to the amish restaurant.

Has anyone ever seen Casino Jon and Pugs in the same room? 😉

Heyman’s comment from ‘one person involved’ is encouraging. Thanks for posting.

A player who has actually been in the room disagrees with Heyman.

MLB Network, Plesac, just said that both sides are still meeting. That was around 6:00 pm on Sunday. MLB seemed to think that was a positive sign.

Is Zack any relation to Helene Britton, I wonder?

Rats, MLB knows they are getting butchered in the public eye so through their mouthpieces (MLB Network, Heyman, etc.) they are trying to paint a more positive story than the players are putting out there.
